Snead Island or Marlow can’t haul you?
 
Doubtful that Snead can do it. They say 75ton and 19' max, but so did Gasparilla Marina. It is too tight a fit and they damaged the boat with straps that are too short. Also, their so called 75 ton lift's alarm was screaming about 105K lbs (1/3 fuel on board) and they almost didn't haul me.

I'm not sure about Marlow, will have to call them to see what they offer.

The USCG 45' fast response boats were all at Legacy Harbor Sunday night. They got orders to clear out and make the Okeechobee transit Monday, and told me as they were leaving that they were told the west side locks were closing by 3PM Monday and not reopening until after the storm passed. That's coming from Coasties, and I doubt they'd have made that up.

Pilings were pulling over (and still are) leaning, but none snapped. That helical anchor didn't budge. I also have two concrete blocks at the seawall that were once used for davits. I wrapped 1/2 high strength chain around them and attached that to the storm lines running to the stern.

Goes back to the same issue, Printed vs word of mouth.
AND YES, I question anything a Coastie says to me if it differs or does not jive with my understanding of anything (frequently happens).

Zig-

I was over at Marlow just last weekend and there were some BIG boats in there. "Think" I saw a 80 Ton travel lift.

If you come up this way, give me a shout, I'm right around the corner.

Sad times for everyone over here, but people are mostly in good spirits - despite many losing everything.

Watching it almost made me cry. Our 48' sailboat (which we sold 3 weeks before the storm) is laying there among all the others.

Seems like there isn't a good way to remove these boats from the mangroves without cutting them up. Especially those that aren't close the the edge of the water or land. Unbelievable.

I'm starting to call marinas with big lifts around the state. We need to keep this dialogue going and share what we find. I'm ready for a bottom job and a remaining laundry list of fairly significant things in addition to painting the entire vessel. It'll probably be a $100k job and I'm hopeful there's a really good yard not too far away.

I was going to get the 52C painted to finish my renovation this winter, anyway. Now, she's a little beat-up and really needs it. However, the two yards with big lifts were on Ft Myers Beach and are totally destroyed. Gulf Marine was always my first choice, but there's nothing left of it.
 
The Helical anchor is 1" diameter galvanize sold steel rod with a 10" auger at the bottom and a 3" eye at the top. It is screwed into the ground (lawn in my case) by inserting something like a 10' long pipe into the eye and walking in circles to drill it into the ground. I am convinced this saved my boat.

I was thinking of using 2 or 3 mobile home anchors. Are these helical anchors anything close? Plus or minus traction?
 
Juice, what about owl creek for the work you wont done? Don’t know their post Ian status, but I have been their twice in the past and was satisfied

That’s what I’m also curious about. I’ve been using them for surveys, and sending customers there forever. They’re totally set up to haul big boats, and have a pond for hurricane storage. They were the only place to do quality paint jobs on that entire coast.

That was my first thought. I've never actually had work done there, but have called out there countless times over the years and they have always referred a good tech...including the DD mechanic I have now.

I called out there early last week and got a voicemail...left a message and haven't gotten a call back. Sounds like they have their hands full either being overwhelmed or have some damage. I'll wait a few days and call again.

Don't know why I didn't think to call my surveyor, until just now. I'll call him tomorrow and he'll know where people are headed.

Several of our marina neighbors used Owl Creek for their work, and swore by them. I'd say yes, I just recall a couple of friends with larger boats (55' +) said it could be a tight squeeze at times.
 
Owl Creek just called back. They're not doing any painting because all the equipment was flooded...said they'll probably get the shop rebuilt and call me to start the process next Fall! Sounds ok to me. I'm not going to worry about getting a scratch while docking for an entire year! They are open to do other things.

I might consider heading up toward Sarasota to a place in that direction. Please let me know if anyone has a strong recommendation. I usually avoid the area because men there often tie a sweater around their waste and sip chardonnay, but we all have to make sacrifices after a disaster.
 
Have you tried Charlotte Harbor Boat Storage and Joel (works out of there) from Impact Marine Services? Kept the 52’ there and Joel painted my 50’ Viking.
 
If I remember when I last checked, Charlotte Harbor Boat storage was 30 ton lift and 16' max beam. this may be a limiting factor for some. It is for me.

Considering their location, I'd be surprised if they are operational, but maybe worth a call.
