  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
34' CONVERTIBLE (1965 - 1969)
46 is scheduled for haul out in March. Going to take 1" pitch out of props at that time. Lighten the load on engines (that do reach full RPM) and maybe transom soot stains might go away from otherwise clean burning Detroits.

34 is in yard with all out of ER and props have some dings. So while at it will take 1" out of those as well. 270 Cummins with guessing 4000 hours (meters stopped working years ago). 34 getting a lot of much needed TLC. New cockpit, new beam for aft bulkhead, paint in ER including under cockpit, and some engine improvements including new turbo's. Should be sweet and splashed March or April.

Can't hurt either to run less load when top speed is not needed and will still make good cruise and will still have get up and go for storms or making a bridge opening.

Anyone else done this?

I took 1 1/2" out of mine, but they were overpopped before I did. I can't comment regarding taking pitch out when they are not currently overloaded except to say it can't hurt if you don't need the extra speed.

Thought is the Cummins in the 34 are maybe a bit tired and could use the break. 1000 hour 8-92's in 46, well I would like them to last until I'm poopin in my depends!:D:D:D

I’m surprised the 46 has that many hours. I remember when Dave overhauled them. I don’t remember him using the boat all that much since.

900 Port and 1000 Stb. Gen is 1460. Started Sept. 2018 with 600/700/625. To me the cheapest best maintenance is to burn fuel. Still only around 100 hours a year. Dave was more like 50. Just different usage.

One thing you can be sure of is they were done right with no shortcuts

Removing weight can help find a lower gear also. Ridding the hibachi, pails of oil, spares, seasonal clothes and unused sporting equipment not only could help acceleration but ride quality.
If your already making proper RPM at WOT, I think any reduction in pitch is going to be counter productive.

Please keep us up on how it works out.

My old boat is under contract, I put it up for sale because I got the hatteras. This was from this week when I had people unloading all of my junk from onboard.

We travel light. Other than tools and some spare parts maybe a couple hundred pounds including all the stuff in the galley.
