  1. OWNER - I own a different brand
Hatteras Model
Not Currently A Hatteras Owner
Looked at a 53MY today. Noticed some soft spots on outer section of the roof (overhang of port side walkway). It was raining, and also noticed the carpet at the bottom of the port side chase was wet.

I understand that water in the chase can come from flybridge that is not sealed well. I couldn't tell if the wet deck intruded under the flybridge Could the water in the chase come from the wet core on the roof overhangs?

Absolutely it can. You need to stop the water. Most likely you have screws that are not bedded correctly. Rebel ever screw and stop the water intrusion first.once done we can talk about the fix of the wet core.

Btw list the year and model as well as the hull number.

I'm looking to purchase it. Don't have the hull details available. I'm concerned the wet core may be intruding into/under bridge. Assume that is a rather large $$ fix.

It's a 1980 53MY.

What does your surveyor say?

Pre-survey. Trying to decide if I want to go to next step.

Depends on how handy you are. And if you’re good with fiberglass. If not it could cost anywhere from a few thousand to 25 or 30,000 to replace the core on the whole roof. Mine had a couple of soft spots in the same area that you were talking about. I was able to repair it myself for just a few hundred dollars.

Rebel? Is that a screw bedding method?

Best advice is to get a survey and have them check with a moisture meter and then ask the marina for a price. Mine was minor so I did it myself. If it was real bad I’d hire the pros. Could be pricey.
