  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
58' LRC (1975 - 1981)
Does anyone have any experience separating the motor from the pump on a HVAC Circulation pump? This is a "Magnetek Century AC motor" Seems to use a "Scot" pump which I have ordered, but I can't seem figure out if the old pump is "Keyed" or screwed onto the motor shaft.

I've attached a few photos for anyone that might be able to help.

Thanks

The impeller is screwed on to the shaft.
Usually a blunt punch and a nice rap from a hammer on the impeller edge, in the normal counter rotation will spin it off the shaft.
Then the housing will slide off the shaft from the motor.

Is your motor bad or the pump?

Thanks for your help.

The motor is fine. The housing of the pump developed a pin hole leak. Almost didn't see it, but a needle size stream of water.

I will hit it and see if it comes off. One questions... do I hit it counter-clockwise direction looking straight on to the impeller from the font or the back?

Do yourself a favor... cancel the new pump order, throw that pos in the trash and get a March. I m done with the bronze impeller and bodied pumps, they erode in just two or three years. I had these on my 53 and boats I ve run and never again.

The March te-7P-md cost $650 and pump as much as the big Scots, over 3000gph. Magnetic drive, and an impeller that can be changed in minutes without even pulling the hoses.

Viewed from the pump end, tap the impeller counter clockwise.

I do agree with Pascal, the newer pumps are using more synthetic materials and better motor designs.
In the long run and peace of mind, consider a newer designed pump.

Thanks guys. A bit late as the new pump arrived today, but I will consider switching it next time for sure.

Pascal: Where do I purchase March te-7P-md for $650?

Looks like a great option!

For those whose pumps may be located above the water line, you should note the following from the March manual....

"Pumps are not self-priming, lack a suction lift, and thus require a flooded suction. Pumps cannot be run dry because the impeller requires the liquid being pumped for lubrication. "

I'm not sure if the Scots pump design is the same or not...

On my 58LRC the pump is below the waterline. so maybe not an issue. But I do prefer pumps that can run dry without damage.

Thought the March pumps were magnetically coupled drive,, no seals..

All air con pumps must be installed below WL. None of them are self priming.

Well damn, next time I'm going to ask my question here BEFORE ordering any parts.

So I learned that I can hold the motor shaft (after removing the back cover) with a 3/8" wrench and spin the impeller off (counterclockwise) per information learned from you guys! Thats' the good news.

Bad news is that the P100 Scot pump that arrived has a 6" diameter motor bolt pattern and my existing pump had a 4" diameter bolt pattern, so the new pump will not bolt up to the motor. Will talk to my distributor on Monday and see about exchanging this for the March pump mentioned here.

That $ 610 sale on the March pump must be over as they show $ 645.00 now at that link.

Even $645 is a bargain

On the original motor is a tag stating the option mounting style or Frame number.
56J is the standard.
