In the islands I prefer a 12ga.

That's a good thread in itself. I've always had a Keltec Sub2000 on boats because it breaks-down so nice and small. A stainless 9mm also on trips.

A stainless shotgun would be nice.

Has anyone ever had the need for a firearm in the Bahamas? I mean the days of the Cocaine Cowboys ended in the 1980's.

Should we start a new thread?

Edit - Just to be clear. I'm in the Bahamas now and yes, I have guns on board. However, when we were in Long Island I looked at the charts and realized I was half way to Turks and Caicos. The thought of venturing out there was quickly dashed when I realized T&C is part of the UK and they have a very different attitude towards firearms.

"the need" ??? I can tell you my shotgun has been needed many times not just on the island, sometimes those BIG toothy critters need dispatch prior to bringing aboard

Does anyone know when seagull season opens up in the Bahamas?

love shooting skeet 10 miles out  I have a rubber mat and a foot controlled launcher, solo shoots are super simple
Fortunate enough to have access to any number of automatic machines along with voice calls from my club. Here, I put together a pair of transom mounts that did the job.

Next mission will be old 20# propane tanks, 5.56 & 7.62mm tracer ammo plus some .50 cal incendiary. What fun!

The drug trade has been replaced by human trafficking and with it a new era of crime. Haitians stuck in the Bahamas resort to whatever they have to do to survive. I follow Bahamas News online and the murders and crime has really skyrocketed since the hurricane destroyed the Abacos.

That’s in Abaco and also Nassau / Freeport obviously. No crime issue whatsoever in the Exumas even Gtown. Very safe.

I just don’t see the need to carry on board when going to the Exumas like we do. It s just extra hassle and the risk of getting in trouble. Even in the US with less varying from state to state, and city to city, it can be dicey. Anyone remember the story of the captain whose boat was boarded in NY harbor a few years back? Declared the weapon to the boarding party but when they docked in NJ, state police had been told by USCG and arrested him for possession. Spent 6 months fighting the charges before they were dropped

C’mon man you can’t compare New York to anywhere but California.

The captain should have kept his yap shut. No need to disclose.

The only time someone will regret not having protection is when they need it. BUT- you had better be aware of locals laws, and, be ready to use it instead of balking. If you balk and they get the weapons, or get on board, you are junk regardless.

Not sure I agree. A licensed captain can’t afford to lie to the USCG.

Pascals just in denial plenty of crime in the Exumas
Crime is everywhere and spreading rapidly here’s just one example I found

“While everyone says Exuma is so chill and peaceful, we had the unfortunate experience of having our rental home entered and robbed. The doors were locked- apparently someone snuck in through a window. It happened on a Sunday when we were out on the boat we rented. It makes me wonder if criminals are preying on tourists who they know will be at the Chat and Chill for the Sunday BBQ? People said, "this never happens on Exuma", but I wonder if that's really the case? A month later, the police response is non existant. It does not seem like a crime anyone really cares about. Apparently, we're just another group of dumb tourists. I heard last fall, someone stole $10,000 from right out of the police station..... I'm not saying, Im just saying..... be careful.”

When is the last time you ve been down there?

Crime can happen anywhere but a couple of thieves breaking into one rental house isn’t exactly a crime wave making it a must to carry weapons.
