Washer install.

In the heat (as in 93ºF) of the battle I didn't take a picture, but it was pretty slick. Docked the boat at low tide on a bulkhead right next to the sliding side door of my van. Two 2"x6"x9' (They were damaged 12' shortened to 9'.....Home Depot from the "cull pile" 70% off) between the step on my van and the boarding gate. Blankets on and under the boards and this 150 pound little gem slid right in the door. (Did have to take the stop off for those extra 2 inches.)

Apparently I forgot to take my anti stupid pills.

After muscling the thing into the boat I'm sitting reading the installation instructions when I start realizing I bought a washer...... NOT a washer dryer combi. I ordered off a screen shot I had in the file that I made a few months ago when I was doing the research. I didn't check my work.

Soooo... Turns out what I bought is the bottom half of a stacker set. After some searching I found the top half, and after some frantic measuring tape action it appears it will fit. Quite nicely actually. It's on order now. And it will work a lot better than a combi.

Maybe I saved myself from hating the combi. The universe works in mysterious ways. Now to find a new home for the tools which need to go from port to starboard...... That bottom bunk in the forward cabin is starting to look really good. Until I make the furniture with storage on the back deck.

In building my future upgrade list, your project is actually one of the ones on there. I currently have the old GE stackers but saw a Hat similar to mine for sale with new front loading stackers that were recent installs. Can you post links to the ones you bought? Thanks!

Washer in place and hooked up. Waiting on the dryer and then I need to trim it all out and make a new door. The old panel and door won't work of course so those are now "in inventory".

We went with two units. I was very close to going with a combo and having that space above, but I am glad we went with two. We don't live aboard, but we often have 5 or more people on weekends and like to be able to do the laundry afterwards quickly. The dryer is vented as well, which also helps with speed.

Very nice Oscar. My only concern is how do you ever clean the exhaust hose of lint? Is there another way to get back there? This is also on my list so thanks for the pix!

No there isn't currently another way to get back there. It could be created in the bulkhead with the galley, however I am planning on trimming it out so the upper unit can very easily be removed. (It is not that heavy.) All that said I think that our use will be a fraction of normal domestic use (we are not liveaboards) so the frequency at which it will have to be done will not be that high.

That makes sense. You know, I was wondering if you removed the clam shell outside temporarily you could probably put a vacuum line down there to get the majority of any lint out anyway. Might be the easier way in.

Not sure how that is attached. Haven't looked at it that close yet. I was, however, able to make a nice plastic 4" flange to screw on the inside on the plywood piece that's there. Whittled it down from a cheapo residential vent "door". Previous "technician" just ran some screws through from outside the hose into the plywood. Did not seal very well.

Thank you! One of the boats like Pau Hana had eliminated the enclosure leaving units open- only reason I can imagine is for heat reduction. Our enclosure has already been modified for easy removal, just need to change to full-height door. If you make it to Fort Myers I will treat you to a beer.

Personally I don't HAVE to have a door if it's nicely trimmed out. Looks a little better, maybe, but it's a lot of work. I will run it by the Chief Decor Officer and see what she says.......
