Hello:

Looking for your recommendations on running gear coatings. Thanks!

Prop Speed on my boat has lasted amazingly well.

How much difference does it make?

Prop speed is great if you never operate in shallow waters. We spend quite a bit of time in the Bahamas and often maneuver with 1 to 2’ under the wheels. They get Sand blasted so nothing will stay on...

Personally I m happy with a monthly scrub by a diver

We go to every three weeks when water goes above 80. 2nd on the diver.

Second the shallow water. The yard coated my wheels with bottom paint. I made a couple trips with no issues. Brought it up here where I was running in 7-8' of water and the paint was off when I dove to clean the bottom. Back in Louisiana had some guys try prop speed. It was 6' deep with 8' of mud at our marina. They almost always had it come off pretty quick. Question for Madhatter. Do you do monthly during this time of year? I was in the water last weekend putting wraps on my pilings. I felt around on the bottom and didn't feel any barnacles. There is some grass growing at the water line on the East side but I can scrub it off as its on the transom. I cant convince myself to go in the 55 degree water but if I need to I will either have to suck it up or hire a diver. I have a 7 mil farmer John but the older I get the colder I get.

Diver for sure.

Brian, I could co probably 5-6 weeks for the few winter months but prefer to keep my diver employed during the short off season. That way he gets some easy cleaning to offset summer months and also loyalty when I need a quick unscheduled cleaning I’d I get a chance to take a little trip. The loyalty thing has never failed me.

I second the Prop Speed recommendation!

I've been using prop optimizer on a bunch of boats. Much harder than prospeed and just as slick.

It's a similar process but it resists the sand.

I've sold a few kits to other owners. It's definitely lower cost than propspeed too.

Count me in on diver instead of Prop Speed for shallow [Keys, Bahama] waters. However, IF you do use Prop Speed, tell your diver to stay away from the running gear [ask me how I know].

Thanks to all of you!
