I know the extra foot is a difference. I've been looking at a 1999 74' and a 2004 75' online. I don't see anything that stands out. Is there anything I am missing?

Exterior styling is, I think, the biggest difference. And of course price-point.

I see some minor changes but nothing that particularly that stood out to me. Maybe my cataracts are worse than I think.

Weight is identical. Only difference in specs besides LOA is 6" extra draft.

One notable difference is the flybridge mold. The bridge runs full beam on the 75, exterior walk around on the bridge of the 74.

Yes the full beam FB, which to me is a negative as I don't know how you wash , wax or do any maintenance on the FB unless you have a cherry picker. The topside mold is different, hull is the same. The window lines are obviously different. After 2002, the 75 has the water tight door and walk in lazerette in the transom, which is nice. The 75 is usually about 2-300K more . All 75's were CAT powered as far as I know, where as 74 's had DD, MTU or CAT. All dimensions are the same except as Eric noted the 6 inch draft difference, probably a paper difference only. My 74 SD is actually 81 LOA. I personally like the 74 better but i am biased............Pat

I have to agree with Pat. I too had the 74 with DDEC’s. There were many times when I used (needed) the walk around on the bridge.

JLR, I hope this isn’t considered a hijack of the tread but maybe the OP can benefit from this as well. I have more than a passing interest in the 74 and 75, but am struggling with the idea of my wife and I handling it by ourselves. I have had a Viking 54 MY for the past 10 years or so and we do good with this. We are both 56 but her knees are slowing her down. My question is after now owning the 56 do you find that the 74 was much more of a PIA to dock relative to the 56 with just 2 people? Also did you sell the boat because it was too much to deal with and do you find the 56 much easier to manage? Thanks for you time.

We went from the 56 to the 74. The 74 was actually easier to handle since it had a bow thruster. However, it did not have the deck walk arounds. But, with the cockpit, aft lines were easy to handle. I sold her because we got tired of traveling every month from New York to Florida to use her and keeping her North for twelve months seemed silly. Making the trip on her North and South each year seemed inefficient. I must say, with 9 or 10 air units plus a whole lot of other stuff, the 74 had many, many more systems to maintain than the 56. Keep that in mind. So, that is why I kept a 56 Ocean Sportie North and the 74 South.

JLR, keeping the 74 south, do you have someone that keeps an eye on her when you are not there? I’m contemplating a scheme like this now but am wondering about boat monitoring when I’m away. How did you get comfortable with that?
Thanks.

Boy, you guys know your stuff. I was going to say 1 foot.

Yes, I did. I used a Captain I had known for years. He checked on the boat every week. I also had installed a number of CCTV cameras. Finally, I kept her at a private club and had ready access to the dockmaster when needed.

Is there anyone with a 75 that will address this issue?
