Hatteras Model
Not Currently A Hatteras Owner
looked at a late 70's 46 convertible. i figure the topsides and house are cored. does anyone know if they cored the hull and transom in the late 70's 46 convertibles? my forum searches didn't turn up anything, might've missed it? so i called hatt, but the service dept couldn't find the drawings for it, so they didn't know. hope a 46c owner here might know if there's balsa core in the hull (water line to gunnel i assume) and topside of the decking?

thanks

I think the cored hulls started about 1980.

thanks Sky. Kinda thought that, but wanted to see if i could get confirmation.

I have a 1974 46C. The hull and transom are solid fiberglass. The house and deck are cored, but its a solid hull.

I believe you are correct I think the 1986-1990 Hatteras 41 had the only cored Hull back then

52HP and 84-85 60 was cored

52HP was cored below the water line? What years and how can you differentiate between the normal 52?

Any issues with the core on those models?

No hulls were cored below the waterline with the exception of a few of the 41 series 2.

Anyone know if the 45C (84 and later) had coring other than the deck and cabin?

Only the first handful of the 41 Series 2, 1986 were cored below the water line. The rest were solid glass. Mine is 1986 hull #20 and below the waterline is 1 3/8 solid glass. From the chine up is divinicil. The mid '80's 38's were the cored boats.

That’s the conventional wisdom except I’ve seen one ripped open and disembowled the coring on Ballerina which was/is a 89 extends to the chine which is below the waterline and it is balsa.
