What is your opening Measurements?

The width of the stairs (without handrail) is 29", which was great. It was the height that was the problem. The fridge going out (the one in the picture) is 33" wide, and we only had 28" height without any modifications. So we had to remove trim at the top and bottom. I could have sawed it, kind of wish I did now after all the trim work, but it is a good refrigerator and I didn't want to waste. It will go to a good home. We are redoing the galley and the fridge that came with the boat stuck out too far (it was 32" with the door on), couldn't use the drawers to the left of the sink. So we went with s smaller unit, more like the original size.

The modern maid stove on the other hand was relatively easy. A couple hundred screws and the sheet metal fit in my trunk.:)

I have made provisions in my new teak and holly sole to be removable for such a task. It's not the work I dread. It's more about the great old school fridge giving up the ghost and what POS I need to replace it with and then how often after that.

Please tell me it's not trashed yet? If your stove top was a 4 burner electric and not rusted out, we could use it. How about the oven?

The metal man took it all.:(

The oven worked, but only after I fixed the reed switches in the clock mechanism, but the clocks themselves did not work, nor did the vent.

Sorry.

Word of the day: Galley-up.

Maybe not as bad but it still is a pain - appliances and furniture have to come in the windows after the glass is out.
Sears delivered my household appliances when I remodeled the galley and I was amazed how much more the original refrigerator weighed than the new one.

My new reclining sofa probably weighs 300 pounds and the delivery guys made me sign a release of liability. $100 for delivery and set up was a great deal. I gave them a good tip when it was over.

Getting the fridge out on a 60C is easier, by a micro amount. After the door and condenser coil are removed, it goes out the glued in starboard window.... after the dinette is removed.
The washer/dryer on the other hand.....it comes out in pieces, after the companionway steps and all jams are removed. And, of course, it also goes out the glued in starboard window lol.

Yes, I had some modifications to do to get our new refrigerator in place. It was a pain.

But before taking the new refrigerator to the boat, I set it up in my garage at home and we filled it with food. After about 3 -4 weeks of use I was satisfied.

That was about 3 years ago. It is running fine, even the ice maker is working great!.

Robert, just curious. Did you have anyone standing by to help fish you out of that hole?

Jon

I will add, once you have made the hole big enough, the physical act of getting the fridge out is relatively easy. They are not that heavy after you remove the doors and all the inside shelves / drawers. And the dinette, seat back, stairs make a natural ramp after you cover it all with blankets. Two people can do it.Three would be better.

We did this in my 36C. The original fridge was too large, anyway. Still worked when it came out. It was such a headache that I rebuilt the space and installed a little fridge from HD; if I have to replace that, it will be a lot easier to get in and out.

Just replaced the original (1971) refrigerator on my 43DC.
New Fridgidaire is a huge improvement. No sound , no heat , 100 lbs lighter and less power draw !
Also fits the opening very well. Model # FFHT1425VV about $500 from Home Depot.
