Paint doesn’t last long. If you anchor a lot, after a couple of months the paint will be gone. T
Zip ties don’t last long either.

I ve seen plastic clips that snap in the links but never got a chance to try

I usually time it... depending on the windlass x feet per second...

Imtra has inserts for chain. I have noticed on some Chinese chain, it does not stay tightly inserted.
I think the trick here is you need real windlass chain then no problems on fit.
Works perfect on my 3/8" chain.

I have used colored wire ties for years and they seem to last

I use colored shoe laces on three links in a row. I leave them about a foot long, easy to see and last longer lonj time.

I second the zip ties. Multicolored and 5 or 6 at each depth so if one or two depart the chain redundancy takes over.
