  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
67' COCKPIT MY (1987 - 1995)
Going to have a 13 whaler as a tender. boat has a 40 4stroke. wondering if this might be too heavy on top of the old yachtfish? I have pictures of a 13 with a 24 2 stroke, any recommendations??

I have a 13-1/2' Zodiac with a 40hp Mercury on my upper back deck. Seems to be fine. The PO had a 13' AB with a 40hp Evinrude up there for 15 years with no issues.

50hp four stroke Yamaha sticker-ed as a 40hp, to win races.

I would love to have a 13 whaler as my tender but my crane is maxed at 800lbs and at 13.6 ft plus the OB it might stick out a bit much on the sides.

Thank you Bob,
Curious, is your 40 a 4 or 2 stroke? Also, how many supports do you have on your aft deck supporting the hardtop of fly bridge? I have 4 stainless behind the aft deck bench.
Thanks again

Some of the 53MY I have seen have the supports at the aft end like you describe and also a support on each side also. Mine is like yours but I think Rusty, Seven has the side supports. John

Before I had Florida Bow-Thrusters add a hydrolic swim platform to my transom, I had an Mercury Amanzi with a 30hp four stoke on top with no issues, other than dealing with how much the boat leaned over when launching and retrieving. Now that I have a Zodiac 400 on my stern, I have updated the aft section of the fly bridge where the tender used to sit with more usable space for guests. Knowing that I might have more weight near my stern up top, I had all the stainless supports reconnected with nuts and bolts instead of just the screws that were originally in place.

I have a 13 Whalers with a newer 40 hp Etec. The Whaler is 460 lbs, engine is 256 lbs, battery, anchor and fuel is probably 100 lbs. Total I'd guess is 800-850 lbs.

I have this on my 63 MY - a Viking - and no issue. If a lowly Viking can handle it, I'm sure your Hatt will too. I'd be more concerned with how robust your davit is.

It's a two stroke. My aft deck is essentially hard enclosed on the sides with two supports on the back. Hope that helps.

Bob

I also have a zodiac YL340, with a 40 HP Yamaha 2 stroke. About 700#s and no issues
