Okay live aboards, what do you use? We have GM pumps and plan to live aboard in the summer so these are the questions that I think of of in the early hours.

Never had any problems using regular septic-safe TP purchased at the grocery store; 3 different head systems. Just keep the wads small, and add plenty of water.

Ditto. You can do a test. Take a square and put it in small Tupperware container filled with water. Shake it and let it set for few minutes. If paper appears to be dissolving... well there’s your answer. Single ply definitely easier on the system (boat) if not on the dispenser.

Single ply.....and don't let the grandchildren near the heads!

POM paper from Sams Club in the industrial sized box.

You can either buy the expensive "safe" paper designated for those heads, or as mentioned above, the absolutely cheapest you can find, like no-brand generic single-ply. Nothing in between.

Like the no-name toilet paper the injun bought at the trading post. Came back next complaining:

Me have'em name for no-name toilet paper. Me call it John Wayne toilet paper. It rough, tough and no take'em shit off Indians.

Well anyway, that's the moon floss you're looking for.

Judging by the size of the motors and shredders I don’t think the GM pumps are more sensitive to TP than others. If anything Vacuflush are probably as sensitive as it gets and I ve been using just about anything for the last 20 years incl charmin, Scott or whatever...

The caveat to Pascal's post is that with vacuflush or headhunter pressurized systems almost anything will flush since it is just push or pull pressure. The trick is pumping the holding tank. Pumping out at marinas with strong pressure is fine and will clear the tank.

Multi-ply TP and worse solids are difficult for your overboard discharge pump system to move out. That's where the price of nicer toilet paper is paid.

I have switched to the RV TP that they sell at Walmart in the Automotive Section. It dissolves. Never any issues.

Been using Scott Marine/RV toilet paper. Walmart now has 8 roll pack for about $5-6. No problem with Vacuflush or pumping out

Y'all're knuckledraggin' cavemen. :p

Even my knockabout Chris Craft Commander 42 is outfitted with Panasonic washlet toilet seats. I put them on my wooden Connie 52 before that, and they're ready to install on my Roamer project boat, too.

Japanese bidet toilet seats make anything less simply uncivilized. There are 100% no-touch versions that, with a push on a single remote control button will clean you up even after a spicy burrito bowl toilet-wrecker and dry with precisely directed, perfectly warmed air. The more pedestrian models I use require a few squares of cheap single ply to blot dry, not for fecal residue removal. Ever. And if you loaded up on deep fried jalapeno cheese sticks the night before, there's a turbo button. Literally.

You want cool, ambient 'shower' water in summer but warmer spray when autumn sets in? Yeah...they do that. The seats are also heated or not. Just set it at the temp you like. Oh, and even the most basic models have hydraulic seat-lowering.

Women have special...needs. There's a button for that, too, that puts a different spray pattern in just the right spot (or so I'm told), which lessens female TP usage, too.

Ironically, all of the hifalutin/$$$ Vacuflush heads I've seen have proprietary seats, so nothing else can be attached to them. My Panasonic washlets work great on pretty much any kind of grinder head.

YMMV

Just be careful you don’t accidentally hit the automatic tampon remover button.

That sounds like something the Germans might try to pull off. None of the Japanese units I've seen come with that feature. The Japanese engineers know their limits. LOL

Thanks for all the replies. I did the tp/water in a jar test and the Scotts brand you get from Costco passes.

Gotta love this site, where else can you get 2 pages of toilet paper discussions. Well done. John

"Y'all're"?

Me and you, Bubba, me and you! In my 62 years on this earth, I've never sat upon a bidet and have never been quite sure I ever wanted to. I've seen multiple placards on boats associated with teaching the uninformed how to use the head on a boat, but I can only imagine what one for a bidet would look like.

Do they come with safety's to keep the uninitiated from accidentally firing a stream at the ceiling?

Do the new ones have laser guided accuracy?

Seems to me there could be numerous problems with a rocking boat that's firing water in the direction of my ass... which on occasion might present a moving target. I've yet to miss the mark with toilet paper, but I refuse to subject my discharge area to single ply toilet paper. Brings hole new meaning to roughing it.

Single ply TP takes some gettin' used to because depending on the condition of the clean up area, barrier failure can initiate full contact between hand and the tail pipe area!

Exactly! Who uses a single piece of toilet paper for such things anyway?

You're gonna fold that single ply five times at least to avoid such an encounter, and it's still gonna remove two layers of VERY sensitive skin! I've never had a problem with using regular two-ply, super strong, double comfort household paper in my boats or my camper. It dissolves just fine.
