Did a search, no result....

There are air starters available for the DD's. Some older trucks and industrial equipment use it. Could save a lot of weight in batteries and the need to maintain/replace them.

Not sure what size tank one would need and whether 120-150 psi at that volume would be enough, but one could build air off the generator and run instruments/alternator off the house bank?

Monterey built several large sportfish boats with air starters, usually on 16v92's. At the time Monterey was using air for the controls, door opener, hatch lifters, etc, so they had a lot of experience with air installs. Knew 2 guys that ran 2 of those boats and they hated it, lots of maintenance because of moisture issues with the compressed air, leaks, etc; and they had to have 2 independent air systems, including tanks, multiple compressors, etc. Monterey used them because they were trying to set cutting edge speeds for their boats, if they could save a couple of pounds on any part they did it.
When the 65 Monterey Gina Lisa would come to Cape May for tournaments everyone in the marina wanted to kill them from the insane noise of the air starters when they fired up, on their current 75' Smith they passed on all of the air powered stuff.

A hydraulic starter was also available for some DDs. It had a hand pump so you could start the engine with no need for electric power if he accumulator went flat between runs. Not as noisy as air.

Let's make it more complicated.

We need to store energy in a high pressure air tank that drives the hydraulic pump ....

you dont want air, they are extremely loud. had them on several push boats that i worked with

The 63 Glass Machine was the first with air start on the 12/92's. I don't remember it being any worse that a air rachet.
