53c info request

Hello all. I'm at a point of seriously considering a repower of my 1972 53c.
I'm leaning to the Cummins QSM but I would like to ask if there are others on the forum that have repowered 53c 's.
If so would you please tell me what you have and if possible post performance numbers and engine room pictures.

Repowered our 1967 50c twice, the hulls are pretty similar, current engines are CAT 3406E 800hp.
WOT (2320 rpm) is 29/30 knots, @ 1950 it's 25k burning 70 gals per hour. 3406E is a 2300 rpm engine, 2320 is what they want for WOT though.
You will be amazed how much room there will be with a straight 6 cylinder engine.
Not sure what your goals are, if I were to do it again it would be CAT C18 @1000 hp.
That goal would be to cruise @ 1750, doing something like 28k, while burning less fuel.
You may want to look into the CAT 12.9's, there might be some deals available on new engines. Try Gregory Poole in Beaufort NC.
Nothing wrong with the QSM11's either.

A close friend of mine and marine professional and Cummins dealer recently purchased a 53 repowered with k series Cummins, the yard does several repowers a year. Call Paul at mako marine in Freeport ny

Took my boat (52’ Hatteras Convertible) from Florida to Mako Marine in Freeport for repowering (QSM11) per Cummins recommendation back in 08\09 when Paul Sr was in charge but Paul Jr, Ray, etc. performed the work. Great guys, top notch job, a very rewarding fun project and I highly recommend Mako for the undertaking. Pictures are available from them and please say hello to Paul Jr. for me.

Spellbound, In 08/09 Paul's father Roy ran the place, there is no Paul sr or junior. Peter is the other senior mechanic and still there. They've done my work for years and Paul has become a great friend. They just did another 52c qsm repower last year, great setup

My bad, yes it was Roy Flood, Paul and Peter. Peter is a very very competent expert/engineer/installer/etc. with marine Diesel engines. Please tell him next time he is down in Florida to give me a call. Great guys and we had a lot of fun up there with them.

What kind of performance numbers are you getting with the qsm11's? What hp rating?
