  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
52' CONVERTIBLE (1983 - 1990)
Things are starting to come together nicely!

Heading out to watch the Blue Angels Fly!

Love those flags.

Got the grill mounted up to the rocket launcher. Made the mount out of square aluminum so that the grill slides into the rocket launcher and then secures with Aviation pins.

Will be adding another set of mounts in the bilge for grill storage when not in use.

Pls excuse the dirtyness in the pics, had been drilling/cutting/cleaning the grill and cleaning the cockpit bilge compartments.

Boat, wife, dogs and sausages on the grill.

It doens't get much better than that!!!

Beautiful boat and love the American flags!!!

What boat do you own. Looks almost just like my 55C even down to the blue striping and bottom paint

Thanks for the compliments guys. The last year has been a whirlwind getting this boat ready. Almost 1 year ago exactly we went and looked at her for the first time. She had been sitting in the boatyard for almost 7 years!!! The freshly rebuilt engines were sitting on pallets beside the boat under tarps. There was a tarp over the cabin back wall. The door, window, galley floor, island... all that crap was stashed in various places throughout the boat.

It's been a long road and many hundred dollar bills have died, but man, we are starting to really get to enjoy the boat now and the memories we are making are putting things into perspective.

Sure, I thought we'd be done quicker, and cheaper, but everytime I get a little down about it, I look back and see how far she has come over the last year and it really amazes me.

We pretty much did all the work ourselves. My brother, my stepson, my amazing wife and I have all put in some major hours. Lots of weekends and holidays over the last year have been spent sweating in the bilge.

Hard to believe this was her a year ago... most all locals had completely given up on her and thought she would just be chopped and parted out.

For 7 years she sat here.

She was a mess!! This is her right before going back into the water after the engines were dropped in and the bottom was done.

Amazing how bad she was... These were from the first day we saw her. For some reason I knew she was the one as soon as I stepped in the cockpit.

Speaking of rust... That's a Nexgrill, or equivalent (yours), available from Home Depot for $99. They'll rust up in a heartbeat and look like hell. The marina tossed mine in the dumpster last year, only three months old. I got it back and painted it. Case and valves were OK, but the guts finally burned up. Good reef starter material though.

I just bought a new one and will place it in commission this weekend.

Just can't bring myself to shell out what they want for a marine grade.

Really nice pictures, BTW. That's the second nicest 55C out there.

I feel ya on the grill. My stupid brother rinsed it off with saltwater washdown on one of our trips. So this one will probably be lucky to make it through one season. What did you prime/paint it with? Was considering spraying some ospho on it. Maybe some high-temp paint would stay put? Ordered mine online for $75 shipped. I figure at that price I can replace every single year and still be way ahead of the game. The marine grills just aren't big enough for us. We like to EAT GOOD out there and often have 8-10 guys. So we need to be able to burn through 10 steaks fairly quickly. I also like the two burners on it, so I can have one side hot and the other side off to slow-cook big pieces of meat.

And the boat is a 52c. Hopefully on it's way to being one of the nicest 52's out there! :)

It was a compliment, but I stand corrected. Phosphoric to remove the rust. On this new one, I painted on ferric chloride to etch the steel; primed with hi-temp Krylon and done. Just needs one good bake. Primer is the official color of rednecks and the Bolivian Navy.

Thanks for the compliment! And also thanks for the paint info, will be doing that!

Looks great!

Good work—have fun—and thanks for bringing that one back to life!

My name is Rusty as well. It’s my real name, not a nick name. There’s are story behind it but I don’t want to bore the rest of the Hatteras group.
