  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
Not Currently A Hatteras Owner
Anyone have any experience with the motor yacht?

Looking at one in MD looks clean. 6/71 low hours generator has 4k hours but boat is clean shed kept.I have a young family and goofy large dog. Mostly cruise Long Island, Montauk, to nantuck

I love 53s but there are few that I like that will not need a lot of work.

We’ve had our 43 for a year and a half. There are some things we wish were different, but that’s the case with any boat. We’ve had a lot of people on board, and never felt crowded. It handles well in close quarters; lack of rear visibility takes a little getting used to. It’s good in a head or quartering sea, not so good following. Overall, we love it. Glad to answer any specific questions you may have.

Great! How is the forward room? Good for 2 adults?
Do you use side stairs for boarding?

The one we are looking at has 6/71s. What are you seeing in terms of cruise with the 3208s?

Finally. How is the engine room? Looks tight but I am coming from a 38' Ocean Yacht with 3208s. That was a small engine room. Maybe 2" above the engines.

Y berths are plenty big; I’m 6’1”, and have slept there very comfortably. Floor space up there is obviously limited, but the forward head is actually more comfortable than aft. Plenty of drawer and closet space for short term guests. We use the boarding ladder most of the time; the Marquipt stairs are pretty heavy; deployment isn’t really difficult, but the ladder is quick and easy. We have 3208T’s at 302hp, so “cruise” is a stretch. I can barely get on plane; as I recall from our sea trial, we did about 17mph. We run 99% of the time at 1250rpm, and depending on wind and current, get 7.5 to 9.5 mph out of that. We’re perfectly happy with that; economy at that speed is good, we average 2 1/4 mpg. The engine room space is good for routine stuff, but getting outboard of the engines is a real challenge; there’s no way you can crawl over the top. I just replaced all my batteries, and decided to rip up the carpet and open the big hatches to do it. Now that I’ve done that, I can’t go back; the new carpet will allow access to those hatches, as well as the genny. “All I have to do” is get those floors epoxied first.

Thank you for this.

I am sure the 6/71s make the engine room tight.

Hoping to make it to the boat int he coming weeks. My current is in contract waiting on sea trial.

Mileage will probably be about the same, as the hp is roughly similar.

The 6/71 boats ran a little faster (and drank more fuel). I wonder what engine choice was more popular
when they built them. As I recall, the 6/71 boats were a little more costly. I remember looking at them
and was considering one with the DD's but I couldn't really get around the lack of rear visibility from the
bridge. My current boat (which is under contract to sell) has the same affliction so it's ironic that I
ended up with a slightly larger model of the same basic design. It's a Series 1 48 MY.
