  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
36' CONVERTIBLE-Series I (1969 -1977)
I have recently purchased a 1985 61' Motor Yacht, and no I did not sell my 36' Hatteras. Just adding to the fleet. I have found a leak in the upper controls and believe that is the reason why I have no starboard forward. I do have reverse but over time loose pressure on that side. Has anyone had this problem and know if its just a gasket? I see fluid running from the control stick on the bridge. IMG_2940.webpIMG_2940.webp

Thanks in advance.

It s been a while since I ve used these controls but how is the level and pressure in the tank

Reason I m asking is that anytime you don't get forward on DD/Allison,or have a delay, but reverse works it s almost always low oil in the gear. I'd check that first and confirm that when you move the shifter nothing happens on the gear

Adding to Pascal's post, I experienced this issue with M15 Allisons and cable shifters. The issue was low pressure in forward due to cracked seals in the transmission. Reverse, I'm told requires less pressure and was OK.

I had same leak and was fixed by Hynautic seal kit ECS-05 which also includes two micro valves.

most of the time just replacing the shaft seal doesn't hold it for long, the Al bodies get loose and allow the shift shaft to wobble . Basically what you have is excessive end play as the Al body wears. So you need to check that or be prepared to replace those seals and bleed the system periodically.....Pat
