- 36' CONVERTIBLE-Series I (1969 -1977)
A couple of tips of the old hat...
1) Eric Jans, master carpenter, who built a new wooden support frame for Blue Note's winter cover. The original frame had finally given up the ghost, or wanted to, and Eric and I were able to copy it by laying out on my driveway and measuring everything. He had never seen the cover on my boat, and I did not even have photos of it (see recent hard drive crash and all photos gone) Nevertheless, the completed frame is sturdy, even looks nice, and fits the cover almost perfectly. There is a little fine tuning to do on the frame, when we take the fabric cover off in the spring, but it seems like it's going to work out great.
2) Jack Thuman, canvas maker, who cut and sewed the original fabric cover. It's still in excellent shape after at least 12 years, probably a lot longer, and is back on, nice and snug; we'll take it off in the spring and maybe have a few places resewn, but overall it's held up admirably.
3) all of us have various boating decisions we would make differently if we had them to do over. BUT- the decision to get a reusable winter cover for my Hatteras turned out to be one of the best ones I have ever made.
List for the winter and spring: fit the new aft spray rails I got from Tom a year ago. Also remove and clean HEs and aftercoolers. Those ought to keep me busy this spring.
