Its a sad day up here in the great white north especially when its 81 degrees and sunny. It just doesn't seem right to be putting the boat away.

Alls I can say is that sure is a good looking boat. I'm gonna start slow tomorrow by deflating the dinghy and loading the 30 x gallon containers of non-tox into the salon. Ace Hardware is having their annual sale on it now.

What do you do about fuel in tanks do you treat it or leave it alone

Sky, as you know on the west coast the weather allows us to stay in the water year round. I'm curious, do you store your motoryacht on the inside of a large building? Is it heated? Do you work on it during the winter? tuneups, waxing, oil changes or is it just to cold. It may seem like a stupid question but being from California I am not accustomed to people Hauling their boats out and putting them in storage.

nice looking boat....living in Florida on the Gulf Coast we are lucky to be able to use our boats all year..

Don't know what Sky does, but boats larger than his are stored indoors in MI and northern IL and WI. I have seen photos. Their season is short and the winters rough. The boats do better indoors. As a matter of fact, some of the cleanest used boats come from up there- short season, FW, etc.

I leave it. Its in heated storage and I've never had any problems.

Yes, its in a big building and I try to work on her over the winter. It never gets below 50 degrees in there. I try to get my varnish work done early before it gets down to that temp.

When I bought my 56, she was stored indoors in a heated shed in Toledo Beach, Michigan. Not a speck of green on any of the strainers or through hulls. Nice!

Green? What's that? :)

Very funny. Fact of life in salt water. Better you never heard of shaft zincs either.

I'll trade you you fresh water for real fishing.

Something bigger than you or it doesn't count.

I was in the Upper Peninsula last weekend. At a restaurant in L'Anse, was a mount of a record breaking 61lb Lake Trout that was caught not far from there on Lake Superior.

You ain't 61 pounds sky. Keep trying.

:)

Right now I wish my boat was out of the water in a shed.

I'll be up all night worrying about things I have no control of.

I can't imagine just leaving the boat. My heart goes out to you but I'm sure you made the right decision. Boats can be replaced.

The boat and everything at the house is replaceable. The wife kid and dog are here with me.

I'm just feeling sick as its the first time I have been evacuated.

Sky, we have friends with a 58 in Detroit stored like yours.

I am curious. As I get older I want to travel more on my Hatteras. Are you at the age you would consider taking her to Florida for the winter? Any interest in taking her to the Bahamas.

Every time I boat on the Gratis Lakes, I am envious of you guys with the fresh water. It's an believable refreshing experience after boating in salt water all my life. The beauty of Florida, the Bahamas and the trip down on the waterways is also an unbelievable experience.

I would be really curious to hear from some of the Great Lakes boaterso about taking their boats south.

I have boated in Florida many times, I have brought boats up the East Coast, through the Erie Canal and also back down the Rivers; IL, MS, TN. I enjoyed the trips but I have less desire to put my boat in salt than to just see parts of the Great Lakes that I have not seen yet. I may actually get up to Lake Superior next summer. That's the one Great Lake that I have never boated.

I spoke to a couple a year or so ago who had taken their sailboat around the world. After boating just about everywhere, they were back in the North Channel of Lake Huron and claimed that was the "Gold Standard" of cruising that they compared to every other part of the world.

One word on that sky.

WINTER.
