Is anyone familiar with the new bridge that is on the gulf ICW that they are/were having trouble with? It was between Clearwater and Tarpon Springs I thought.

I have a friend coming south this week.

Thanks!

There is a bascule bridge just north of Clearwater. It has a clearance between 19 to 24 ft. Depending on the tide.
If coming from the north it is much more direct to just enter at Clearwater pass then continue south from there.

Only bridge between Clearwater and Tarpon is the Dunedin Causeway. Went through there yesterday and don't believe they are having any problems at the present time.

Why would they want to run in at Tarpon just to head to Clearwater when they're already in the Gulf?

That's what I was thinking too. We went from Steinhatchee down to Anna Maria Key where we tucked inside and spent the night at a great little Marina in Cortez. Maybe we were lucky with the seas back in December, but it was very doable.

That's my point. If seas aren't favorable, there's no point in heading out from where they already are. If they make it as far as Anclote, there's no reason NOT to head straight to Clearwater Pass.

Just to clarify, this assumes Clearwater is their destination. If not, there's not much reason to run the ICW period until you get to Boca Grande Pass. Unless, of course, the weather is bad.

The Tom Stewart causeway in Madeira Beach has been having issues. I sure have had to turn around waiting for the closing that does not happen while in the truck
