She was looking good until I got to the stateroom pics.

Well.... I think it is a great looking boat. What might put me off is the seller (NL don't have a great rep from what I recall) and that it has 92 series diesels. But I like the interior decor a lot. Although that bowl sink is a bit over the top.

I may be biased, but I think the 92's are preferred in the 53 over the 71's. You get more room to get around the front of the engines and you get a little more hp. Plus you get aftercoolers instead of raw water cooled intercoolers. Add to that they cost less to overhaul. All good things.

Check ebay. All the missing electronics and other items will be there. National cleans the boat off as soon as they arrive.

She was for sale with a broker (possibly Frank Gordon) for a number of years at least on and off at a much higher price. I can't find the old listing I saved at the moment. At the time she looked to be standing tall, this may be a good deal with proper due diligence.

Looks like she sold in 2013 for $297k. In 2013 they were claiming 400 hours on rebuilds and over 500k of work performed.

Interesting! Sensible, but I didn't know that.

More like theft. These are bank owned boats and NL doesn't own them. A friend had his boat repo'd by them. When he went to get his stuff off the boat, they had already stripped it. They claimed that's the way the boat was when they picked it up.

Is that wallpaper?
I dunno, is that a shot?

My 41 has high end wallpaper in the salon, but it's not white. It was installed by the PO, and while it's not something that I would have done myself, I've had no desire to try and remove it. Looks like that one may be painted, and I've seen some professionally painted wood that looks great. While I still maintain the lighter wood/coverings make a boat feel much larger, leaving the drawers original gives that one a mobile-homish, two-tone look. It would have looked better if they had whited out all the wood.

In going back and looking at those pics again, it would do that stateroom a world of good just to get rid of that solid white comforter and replace it with something that has some earth tones and other contrasting colors worked in. Maybe some matching drapes/valances. Wouldn't take much to make it more presentable.

Better pics in the YW listing.

Looks like wallpaper to me but hard to tell. Restoring the original look to the dressers would be relatively simple. While I do prefer the all wood look this appears to be pretty nice and professionally done. The salon is the biggest disappointment. Having that back to all wood would make this boat very attractive. As for the engines, I'm with Sky. A pair of fresh low HP 6V92TAs in that boat would be better than a pair of 8V71TIs.

Well, engine condition trumps model numbers, for certain. I think this IS a nice boat. NL, well, caveat emptor, I guess. But for a late model 53 that looks as clean as it does, it is well worth looking at from what I can see.

Sarcasm was lost. They strip them of anything that can be sold on the side. Its not a good thing. If there were any electronics, TV's or other usable items of value their gone in a day.

My research suggests that they are 6v92's. She sold in 2013 for $297,000 with a reported 400 hours SMOH.

Yes, you can see them in the pics. Mid 1985 model year is when they made the switch from 8v71's to 6v92's

Very nice looking boat, but I have 8V71's and have way more space to move around in my engine rooms. How do you even get on the outboard side of the stbd. eng.?

I've worked on 53MY's with 71's and 92's. It may not look like it in the photos, but there is more room in front of the 92's to get around the engine. Some of the 92's had the exhaust crossover up higher which makes the ER look smaller.

No, just a question. I had no idea that you had any wallpaper in your boat. I just like the look of the wood.
