  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
52' CONVERTIBLE (1983 - 1990)
Guys i got this white plastic material that is hard for steps. It is not starboard but harder. I do not know what kind of material, I have seen some other hat that have replaced the teak steps with the same stuff. Mine have some stain that will not sand out or bleach out. I want to make new ones. Mine are white. I drug out the other set of cockpit steps they are the same but snow white. I have seen black ones out of the same material. I bet they are hot. ANY IDEARS.

Tim, I'm going to replace the stern ladder on my 53MY this year. It is just to darn straight up and down. I've had far to many complaints from the older crowd while trying to climb in. I'm going to kick the bottom out about 8 to 10 inch. When I change it I will be having them put in the white steps. Black gets to hot in the sun and most people boarding will be coming up bare foot.

WHAT IS THE WHITE MATERIAL? You are correct the black is hot hot. Are the steps made of stainless or are they aluminum. If they are stainless how you going to add 8 to 10 inches with out a pice mill look.

Not sure what the white steps are made of. I'm sure it's a non yellowing plastic. I'll ask when I speak to the builder of the ladder. They fabricate Stainless Steel to fit anything. The ladder steps will be SS with the plastic screwed in. Hope this helps.

Be sure they use 316-L for the pipes. I had 304 on mine and it bled rust terribly. Changed to 316-L and problem solved.

Good to know. This place only does marine installation so I'm sure it's the right material but I will ask. Thanks for the heads up.
