  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
65' CONV -Series I (1986 - 1998)
Many years ago, I had one and only one telephone call with him. One was enough. The world is full of straight shooters who are not offensive jerks.

Why was he temporarily out of business? And, those aren't exactly liquidation prices.

He can be his own worse enemy. Two years ago I sent a friend to buy a boat from him. Great deal on a great boat and only a few miles from our club. My friend was concerned about dealing with Charlie as he is a bit abrasive. He ended up buying the boat and has been very happy with it and the price.

He stepped out a couple of years ago when things were slow but has opened up shop again under the same name and location. I don't think he ever went out of bussiness completely just suspended operation for a while. His prices used to be exceptional and near impossible to beat. He still has some very good deals but the depressed boating market has made his prices less of a bargain than they used to be. He isn't selling much that would interest me but he has had some amazing deals in the past.

Not exactly an impressive list of boats. Carver, Carver, Carver, blah, blah, blah.

Engine Notes
Top speed of boat: 32.22072mph

The Azimut listing from his site, nice to know exactly how fast she'll go!

I saw that too.

With all the talk of this person and how rough he can be, I would not have an add showing him with a gun. To funny.

To say he's a character is an understatement. Fortunately he's harmless but he does have a way or pissing people off. He has great deals and his boats usually sell within a week or two.

There are a lot of usual hyperbole red flags in his write ups.

"open checkbook maintenance" "best engines ever built" "super fast and super efficient" "killer electronics"......

Danger Will Rogers......

When the above items are true, you don't need a broker! With or with out manners or a gun.

He's not a broker he owns all the boats he's selling. His boat are usually late models, low hours and very clean.

Ah, so he's the seller. Well, that's easy then. Hook up with a buyers broker and make him deal with the delicate flower. Wonder if there are any brokers out there that will want to do that......

A Gun is useless read his post most of them are also Bulletproof :p

Interesting business model.

Quick, back of envelope math shows about $6mm in inventory, if he truly does own them all. While admittedly it sounds fun to put that kind of cash (assuming no leverage) to work messing about with boats... Not sure I have those kinda stones, but fun to dream. I would be fascinated to get a peak into the performance/margins of his business.

My accountant would chase me around with a crowbar for even suggesting buying and selling used boats as a way to make a living :)

I truly wish him well.

He makes it clear that ya better not waste his time. Nothing wrong with that! Way too many tire kickers in this world.

I have long felt that many people take advantage of a boat brokers time as if it has no value. Many do it to real estate brokers as well. The world if full of dreamers and I have a suggestion to all you brokers out there which should help separate the bored dreamers from the serious qualified buyer. Very simply you require a buyer to post some sort of deposit of good faith which will be drawn from for direct expenses including but not limited to travel expense, photos meetings etc. While I realize that some sort of program like that will be difficult to implement, the Auto Body industry has a variation on it whereby you pay for an estimate and if they get the job, the amount you paid is credited to the cost of the work.

While the above is an over simplification something along those lines would be good for brokers as well as clients. Just my opinion.

It's tricky to say the least. I have three questions before showing houses.

1. What you looking for?
2. When do you want it?
3. Are you prequalified?

That usually separates the wheat from the chafe.

Boat Brokers have a whole different challenge. No one needs a boat. Well Noah did. Lots of dreamers! Limited time.

I have a new saying. "I can get more money, but not more time". I spend it carefully.
