Perusing some used/rebuilt engine sites I noticed 8V71's advertised as CW and CCW which I assume means clock wise and counter clock wise.

So, the port and starboard engine do not turn in the same direction? I know the props counter rotate and are Left and Right, but I always thought that was achieved in the trannies being CW or CCW or by running one forward and one reverse and making it the same in the engine controls by reversing the linkage on one side?

Are the trannies the same?

Detroits can be assembled in many configurations i.e. rotation, which side the blower and manifold is on etc. It used to be more common to make engines rotate opposite than it was to do it with the transmission. A lot of transmissions don't like continuous duty in reverse.

"continuous duty in reverse", like the government?
