  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
43' DOUBLE CABIN (1970 - 1984)
We are making our way from Panama city to Beaufort,SC and it seems that we are experiencing Poor service for a number of reasons. The problems are far ranging but all are service they advertise as available.

I am quick to tip well for superior service but we are on day 7 of 11 and have only seen superior twice and most has been well below average. We are at a well known location on the east coast that the wi-fi does not work we are without power until around 10 PM (maybe) and the dock hands were all but useless and they had no problem charging me full price. This same location last year provided outstanding service last year.

I am going to look for a manager in the morning however I am most interested in knowing if others are seeing this as a trend.

Could it be tide and storm related?

Well Scott I would say normally so as when I tied up they told me the power would go off @1700 and come back on @ 2200 for tide reasons. Seems 2 regular customers were turned back on @ 2100 and I am still in the dark. (yes I have called)

The icing on the cake is the genny quit and I decided to wait until we get where we are going to fix it.

What I am trying to point out is if the service you advertise is not available I think you have an obligation to tell the customer when they check in. There are three other marinas close by and one with floating docks. I came here last time because of the reviews and the service I got. I am not even getting the minimum they advertise.

As I said in my first post I am seeing a big difference since last year. Almost everywhere. So far I have seen no storm damage or debris.

I HATE calling and complaining but it worked! I am now cooling down.

I have noticed the drop in service for sure. I was thinking it was just in Florida. Nobody's Wifi seemed to reach out to where we were and the cable tv ( advertised) didn't work either. When ask why it didn't work, the answer was always the same. Tv was that they are out of boxes or the boxes didn't work. Time warner has screwed up the whole state of Florida and nothing seems to work. The internet they claim there are too many people streaming videos and such. One place tried to pump me out and the pump out didn't work. It sucked barely but no waste came out at all. They were going to charge me $5 anyway. I ask why because it didn't work to which they said well we tried and that was good enough and heck it's only $5. I wouldn't mind but it didn't work !!!. You knew it didn't work before you hooked it up. He was going to charge me until I meantioned I would write a nice review about this in active captain. Wow, that changed th whole thing. Yes sir, don't worry about it, no problem. I wrote it on AC anyway. Oh well I could go on for hours but I do think you are correct about the slack off of customer services.

Your rich guys with yachts and their Bernie Sanders deciples what do you expect.

Public wifi is worthless now. Everybody pounds it too hard with streaming video and multimedia. And the owners of the facility don't have the know how (or too cheap to pay) to have the users throttled so people can just webrowse.

x2. Public or widely shared wifi is a lost cause, supply will never keep up with demand and everyone leaves mad.

My expectations are low... Just get me a slip and power. IF wifi works, great otherwise I ll used a cell card. I honestly anyone cared for dockside cable TV anymore since sat has dropped in price. As to dock hands, I prefer to handle my own lines as most are pretty clueless and do more harm than good. Ever seen a guy trying to pull a 70 footer agaisnt the wind instead of tying the damn spring line so I can use it? Drives me nuts...

Most of the time, I prefer to anchor out. Saves a few bucks, better view and privacy unless I m going to spend longer than overnight and want to go ashore.

I do not travel to far away places. Stay around Va NC SC i fished out of Manteo NC this summer. I stayed at Pirates Cove Mariner all nice folks and the service was grate. Ya gotta tell it both ways. But like any where being nice gets you a long way...The chest beating, see me now, attitude gets you a bad name right out of the gate.
I will agree over all some so called freebies have gone by the way side....I suspect profibility has go over the past few years. Not much gusto left in the owners....

Manteo is one our favorite spots. We stayed in shallow bag bay marina for 10 days waiting out 30 mph wind. Didn't want to be on the sounds with that. The marina has a swimming pool, gym and very nice staff. We also caught flounder and trout right under the dock. Who needs wifi and cable there. We also watched like three 4th of July fire work displays at the same time from that location. This was all about the years ago. We plan on going back there June of next year.
