As most of you already know! Joaquin is a CAT 4 now. Glad I'm out of the water painting the hull and a new bottom job.

We are sitting at King Creek Marina in Cape Charles, VA. This is a hurricane hole so fingers crossed. The winds are already high (not due to the storm) so we will wait it out. The marina management has stated they will not charge additional if we have to wait beyond our original reservation and also has offered us free rooms if we want to leave the boat. Amazing offers.

Anyway, as of now, the likely track seems well to the east and winds will settle down to TS speeds when it gets this far north. If that turns out to be the case, we shall be fine. Fingers crossed!

There is a photo of my boat in my gallery, at the height of Isabel- no dock in sight, just docklines leading down into the water, which was several feet above normal high tide and covering all the docks. I'm hoping we don't do that again.

And aim right at me... thanks.
Hopefully not. I'm thinking much further east and the latest forecast track seems to agree.

Hi All,

Don't want it to be all about you :p

Sorry. I was in a hurry. Doesn't seem as funny now as I thought it was at the time either.

In any case it looks like we're all going to dodge the bullet this time. If the latest forecast continues to hold.

Hurry Hurry Hurry, I know how we can stop it. Everyone send a check with as much as you can afford to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. Washington DC. Be sure to put Global Warming, Gore, Obama in the note section so he knows what is for. He can make the seas recede, he said so in his speech.

All Washington needs is more money and our Anointed Faithful Leader can save us all from the storms and the sea level rising. Just please hurry, it may already be to late as mentioned in the Anointed ones speech in Alaska. Either way send it, Hurry there still maybe hope if you hurry, just start sending money and he'll have the EPA fix it. Well,,,,,, so long as there isn't a Metal Mine involved in CO filled with old iron dirty water that is. It's funny how the media stopped talking about that one pretty quick. If we spill an ounce of diesel in the water we're in serious trouble, worse of a criminal then an Illegal Alien. But if your the EPA, you can pollute and ruin Multiple Rivers and it's just an accident that gets pushed under the rug. Move on people,,, nothing to see here, move on or we'll have you arrested.

Just everyone please hurry and send your money so we can save ourselves,,,,, Please.

Tony

How are things in SE FL? Are you getting high winds, surf, surge or rain? Looks like you guys will be the closest to this one but fortunately still far enough away.

Captain said the weather was nice, no problems.

Sunday AM gusts here at Cape Charles were as high as 50 mph and probably higher this afternoon. With all the enclosures, we have a large wind profile and get to rocking pretty good. It looks like we will be here until Wednesday before we venture on to Chesapeake, VA. No fun, not much to do in this small town. The facility is first rate, but sparsely occupied.

Is there a dispensary that is walk-able? I hope so....

At Kent Island, Noon today, the tide was just barely below the dock boards. Not sure where it went after. Mike P? Did you get your socks wet walking up the dock?

We had tides about 2.5-3ft above normal since early Friday. Winds NE 30-35kts gust to 50kts. Cold and rainy all weekend. Winds didn't let up until this afternoon.

Fortunately we are provisioned for the trip to SFL, so have all the liquids (beer, brandy, bourbon) needed. We even have wine and water.

Tides here were just a foot or so above normal, but a larger rise will cause a big problem. The dock's roller retainers around the pilings will not pass the fixed walk way and will get under it and break something. They also had a wire cable between the floating docks that was within a foot of the power chase. Scary. The dock master was not aware of it and released the cable.

Does any one know if the Great Bridge Lock operation has been impacted by the rains? That's where we are headed when we leave Cape Charles.
