appears lightly used. trying to decide a fair offer on a mostly original boat

Post a link and see what others think.

Like he said, the biggest liability is the engines. At that state of tune they were putting out better than a hp/cubic inch, and they would have a short life. If they are very healthy as confirmed by a thorough engine survey, you could get a lot of hours out of them by taking good care of them and not running them hard.

You could not justify repowering this boat by the numbers; if you bought it and really loved it after owning it a few years, you could justify it by keeping the boat for a very long time and putting a lot of hours on her. C series Cummins would be great engines for it. All the power, half the weight, and significantly less fuel consumption.

It looks like a nice layout if you don't mind the galley up design; I've never been a fan, but that's a matter of individual preference. She looks a decent older boat, but if you decide to go ahead you'd want to get her as cheaply as you can.

Looks nice but needs updating. Based on the listing/pics, looks like you'll need some electronics, new canvas and lots of detailing. If the paint and mechanicals are good she looks to be a fair deal. I don't know what the 38Cs are selling for but that seems like a reasonable ask to me. Figure out what you need to do to her to make her right for you. If you can do most of the work yourself you'll be way ahead of the game. Make an offer based on that and see were you end up.

yes new electronics are a must. canvas isn't actually too bad. it was repainted a few years ago.

i think i would want to do electronics, floors, and new counter sink and stove.

Anyone have anymore thoughts or insights

Don't offer more than she's worth to you. And line up serious experienced surveyors in advance. Good luck- hope this works out for you.

Electronics are not cheap. If you fish seriously it's easily $10k plus for current gear.

That's something to consider as you need to look at your budget overall.

boatsb, realize that. As much as I want dual screens immediately going to have to settle to start

Let me know when your ready. I'll see what I can do to help.

I believe Pascoe did a review on the 38c , might be worth reading at his web site
