Hatteras Model
50' CONV -Series I (1966 - 1969)
From the Nassau trib. For those who boat on De Nile river. Note it's homecide 48 for 2015 alone

A BRITISH man has been shot dead after two armed men boarded his sailboat near Stuart Cove's diving centre in western New Providence on Friday night and demanded cash.

#Police report that the man, believed to be an employee at the diving centre, has been resident in the Bahamas for a number of years and lived aboard his boat. Around 10pm two men armed with handguns accosted him and demanded cash. The men fired two shots at the victim before fleeing on foot. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Police have launched an island-wide manhunt for four men in connection with the incident.

#The murder - the third in 33 hours since Thursday night - takes the total of homicides for 2015 to 48 according to The Tribune's records.

#• Police are already investigating a fatal shooting of a man around 9.30pm on Thursday off Kemp Road when, according to reports, a man was standing outside his vehicle when he was approached by a man known to him and shot multiple times. The victim was taken to hospital by ambulance but died a short time later.

#And shortly before 10pm on Thursday, police say a man had just closed his barbershop on Baillou Hill Road South when he was approached by three males. A struggle ensued, which resulted in the man being shot in the head and face. The suspects fled in a waiting vehicle. The victim died on the scene.

#More details to follow and full story in The Tribune on Monday.

Heard about it s couple of days ago, very sad.

Hard to know what exactly happened since the article is so poorly written... If he was accosted and the perps left on foot, I m not sure it happened on his boat.

Anyway, nassau is not the bahamas. It is the capital and "big city" (by bahams standard) but the rest of the islands that are of interest to boaters are very safe. We stay in nassau as little as possible, just a day or two at the most to pick up guests and provision. If staying on the new providence side of the harbor, we don't go out after dark.

The rest of the islands are safe. Just about to head back home after two months in the exumas and never had any worries, never heard anything from any cruisers. We were in Gtown for the National Family island Regatta with thousands of Bahamians and a few dozens visitors mingled evey night at the race village and it was very safe. The Bahamians we're welcoming, friendly and eager to share their culture witht the visitors. Never felt uncomfortable, never witness any hostility or any signs that we were not welcome. Very different from most of the other islands of the Caribbean were there are always some racial tensions. How different from the U.S. too...

So yeah, nassau is a dump but everynody needs to realize that Nassau while part of the bahams is not the bahamas. Just like Atlantis is not the real bahamas.

I agree in part. The only exception would be parts of Marsh Harbour Abaco, and Freeport. We were at the Junkanoo in Marsh a few years ago, and there were some folks reviewing people as though they would take them for something. But I do not see it any worse than many places we frequent in the United States. Having grown up in NYC I tend to be looking over my shoulder quite a bit anyway.

If you want to talk about REAL crime, think about all of the folks that paid money to stay at Baha Mar before it actually opened. Talk about speculation. Now the earliest it will open is 9/8/15. LMAO wow, is this place late. People are scrambling to use air travel reservations or get alternatives lined up. This one is looking like a huge failure to be.

The notion here, is that he was a relatively fit man, and yet, he was gunned down. Having driven around the whole island I see no reason to stop in other than for fuel or weather.

I nicknamed Nassau-Nausea. No redeeming qualities and more gangsters than Chicago.

The article mentions Paradise Island. Does anyone know if the attack was at Atlantis, Hurricaine Hole, or one of the smaller private marina/docks?

Tony

If you look closely you ll notice that it says paradise island, no caps, in a general context. Not Paradise Island

Other articles indicate it happened near Stuart Cove diving center where he worked, on the SW coast of new providence

I got my C card diving with them. All in all a good shop. It was a bit out in the boonies but still, the experience at the time years ago was very positive. The hotel nearby has closed down and is abandoned now unless it was torn down and replaced by Albany.
I guess this lends credence to the notion they leave Americans alone because they know we are armed.

I understand that is a Chinese-financed resort owned by a yet another shadowy international developer by the name of "Sarkis Izmirlian" (emphasis added). Just another honest, neighborhood businessman not unlike Kerzner of Atlantis. ;)
