Hatteras Model
43' DOUBLE CABIN (1970 - 1984)
It's time to replace the AC raw water strainer on my 1973 43' DCMY. The original is horizonally mounted, screwed directly onto the thru hull.... I want to put a vertical one in, but don't know if it's a 3/4th or 1" pipe fitting. Anyone replaced one?

If we went that far, I would switch to the modern wedges. They are self cleaning and eliminate all strainers. Good deal.

+1. That's what I did. My boat has the wedge on the bottom. I left the strainer in place and just pulled the basket out. Works fine that way.

A 3/4" strainer will be plenty for the a/c system. Make sure you don't mount it above the water line. Most of the pumps used for the a/c won't self prime.
