You thief i put a compressor and tank unser the brow 250$+. I wonder if the pump alone will work properely . without a bild up of pressure or a tank to hold pressure it seems there would be a delay to produce enuff pressure to activate horn. Do not know eather way.

I was going to do the compressor and tank thing until a generous HOF member gave me one of those. I was suprised how quickly it responded. As long as the hose run isn't long the horn is instantaneous. That unit will not work as a compressor though, it's really only suitable as an air pump for the horn. Oh, and it's also almost as loud as the horn, so mount it somewhere where you won't have to listen to it.

Yes the pump is mounted inside of flybridge very close to air horn, so hose is minimal length, the noise of horn overshadows any air pump sounds as the pump only runs momentary when you push button
Was original equipment on my 50' Hat

always wanted air horn. Have some crappy electric ones. Whats a good air horn to put with this unit?

mine had a compressor and tank in the engine room with hose running to horn with a couple of joints they leaked. I took the old compressor out (pos) put a new one in under the brow next to the horn all well. It only services the horn probley a overkill. I talked to Hatteras. They did not put a compressor on the engine of sport fish affraid the customer would complain about hp beiing taken away to run it so they installed a electric one with tank. I belive the motor yachts had a compressor attached to the engine . Did not require tank as i understand. That is the extent of what i know which is not much.

Same on mine, but Dad's boat didn't have a bridge and the horn was mounted on the cabin top. The compressor was on the overhead and was a little startling to anybody in the cabin.

You're going to have to look at the psi requirements of the horn. The air pump will not make the same kind of pressure as a real compressor.

I believe Alpex was one the manufacturer of horns used by Hatteras
