First storm of the season

the first storm is almost directly East of us..... MIGHT get a few gusts and some rain... But nothing more than our basic afternoon summer storm.
But see it's heading up the coast......
My question is..... How are the folks where Sandy hit doing on their recovery?

Most areas are somewhat back to normal. Still lots of restaurants and business that are rebuilding but this summer is much better than last. Most homes have been rebuilt or are under construction. Very few have been left damaged but there are some.

NYC is back to normal with the exception of some beach communities in the outer boros. The LI sound also appears back to normal while the South Side of the Island also is all but put back together.

not based on anything but conjecture, buts the properties that are not rebuilt all seem to have some extenuating circumstance... Zoning, insurance issues, bankruptcy etc. etc.

Hell yeah I stopped at the Beer store yesterday and got some backup

Sitting on the boat all tied up. Everyone scramling for a spot. I was headed to Hatteras to fish a small marlin tournament all put off for 7 days.

Is about 7:00 pm lots of rain sometime heavy. Do not expect worse till about 12:00 or so. Staying with boat eaven though we are in a very safe creak. Weather man now saying cat2 and wends around 100mph.

We got zero from the storm as it passed way East of us..... But today we took a nasty hit from the system that came across Florida from the Gulf...... Winds to 55 mph and heavy winds for about 40 mins... And maybe more later on....

Hi All,

I'm a little concerned since we're on the outer T dock this year and not a slip. Given the tide fluctuations and with our starboard side against the pilings, we could have some significant side on wind, waves and rain pushing us against the dock.

Have all fenders and fender boards out. Watching lines and tide variations !

Another marina mate suggested using our soft bottom inflate able as a fender. Has anyone heard of that ?

Well it's 10:30 and about 60 gusting to o about 75 or so lost power about 10:00 . Cranked the gen and popped some pop corn . Sat TV seems to be working grate watching a money on show time. Boat not slapping seems to be stable. By the local radar storm eye seems to be about 4 to7 miles away . Eye has not gone by as wind direction is still the same out of the SSE. Microwave is saying pop corn ready LATER all

That would be a pricey fender. Good thing is this storm is small. If it passes to the east of you you may be ok.!Just spoke to Tim Powell and he's fine. Winds are around 75mph or so. He lost power so he's got the generator going. Popped some popcorn and is watching TV. Not a bad way to ride out a storm.

Well, I feel fortunate that a well positioned cold front saved us what would likely have been a direct hit in RI this past Friday.

I would respectfully request that those of you who have the good fortune to be able to boat in the winter kindly keep your damn storms out of our northern waters and limited seasons. Thank you.

Amen Pastor Bob,

It seems the strong winds and gusts we were threaded with hit of all places northern Maine, upper Aroostick county where my in laws have a 400 acre potato farm. Trees are down by the gazillions. Trees that were eons old. Lots of power outages etc.
