For those not in North Carolina, a new law requires that documented vessels be registered with the state, and receive a state number and sticker. Documented vessels do not display the state numbers but are required to display the registration expiration sticker. The statute specifies that the sticker must be displayed on "the forward half of the starboard bow". Plain and simple english would point to the navy blue feature stripe on the starboard bow for the red sticker.

I do not want to put the red sticker in that position just for appearance reasons. So I have a couple of questions for the group. First, where does the bow start and end on both the horizontal and vertical plane of a boat. Second, for other North Carolina boats, where have you mounted the sticker?

BTW, my preference would be a starboard side window pane on the pilothouse of our 48 LRC. This would be just as visable as on the hull for any law enforcement checking for a sticker.

NY, not NC but mine are on the cabin windows and there's never been an issue with that. Usually all they're really interested in is you proving that they got their pound of flesh. Of course if a cop is having a bad day, or you give him one, it may go differently.

I put mine on the forward stb side window. It's a lot easier to get to and won't hurt the paint. It's possible that I might end up in a "discussion" someday with the wildlife folks about the location, but I doubt it

It would seem like they couldnt see the sticker as well due to the bow slanting below the rail. I have my windows covered up with privacy curtains so I have no idea where I'm going to put it, if i even register it.

My Florida sticker is on the port flybridge window. Have always put it there with no questions. If someone asks, I blame it on my wife.

If your in Florida you need to register it in Florida.

Yep -- mine for Florida was on the salon window, port side and easily visible to an approaching FWC vessel. For my little boat (not documented) it goes right next to the numbers (as they want it.)

I'm just passing through. Less than 90 days. Uh yeah, thats the story and im sticking to it. If I only had a place for that sticker.....

Florida also appears to have a deal for older boats, ANTIQUE VESSEL REGISTRATION FEE, sect. 328.72 (2)(a), for boats over 30 years old, used only for recreational purposes and powered by the vessel's original-type power plant. Sounds interesting. Unfortunately, you have to put registration numbers on both bows, and there is a special registration decal.

Anyone tried this? Right now I'm paying $224.38 for Florida registration on Fanfare and my 11 ft. Boston Whaler (this might be a two year registration on the dinghy, not available for the bigger boat). BOTH are over 30 years old and the Whaler already has numbers on both bows! Save enough $$$, I can handle the appearance!

I've had an 'antique' Florida registration on my 1981 MY for several years. It is documented, so no letters or numbers are needed. It was a very simple matter to request and receive the decal.
