end of the season

Blue Note is hauled out for the year- kind of a sad time as I always wish I'd done more with her, although she does get out of the slip every two weeks and get run around to keep the bottom clean. This winters' list includes some teak refinishing, cleaning all the canvas up, and a few other odds and ends. I am grateful to have a boat this old on which so much of the original equipment still works and works so well. Thanks to Hatteras Yachts for building such a high-quality boat, and for still being there for us after all these years, through Sam's Marine.

+1 although my boat is not yet winterized. I plan to leave the slip one more time this Fall, if only to give a bath and snap the Winter vent covers on. We did use our boat quite a bit this year. I'm thankful for that among many other things. Great thread Jim!

It's always sad to come to the end of another season and have to put the boat away. I am thankful for the time I spent afloat this year. And that nothing too terrible happened to me or the boat!

For those of us in the south there is the anticipation of "unsummerizing" prior to commissioning in January. All I have to do is get through those pesky December holidays...

Just thinking about having to winterize is enough to keep me here in the Jacksonville area where we can boat year round. There's plenty of warm days among the cold to enjoy going out or just hanging at the dock.

I feel for those who have to miss so much boating due to the weather, but it sure builds the anticipation for the next season.

We don't do so badly, really. Boating season here is April to November, so we don't miss too much. It would be nice to have twelve months, but I would have to pick up and move quite a ways South in order to do that (that would have its merits, to be sure) And giving her a rest for the winter doesn't hurt her, I think.

Our 7 day forecast only calls for one day over 80, mid-high 70s the rest of the days and calls for a low of 45 on Tuesday.... Brrrrrrr.
Now we have had a couple of nor easters that kept the ICW choppy....

All we did was turn the boat to the North here in Mobile.That way we get less cold wind when the northlys come thru .We are slipped due north and south.

I have to admit that I'm quite happy NOT to be dealing with the boat for a good part of the year. It's part of my life for certain months of the year and it's totally out of sight, out of mind for the other months. I'd probably make myself crazy if it was a fool(!) time interest.

I can see it your way, for sure. I get overwhelmed with projects, not to meantion just keeping it clean. Barnicles are growing as we speak. It would be good to come up with a laundry list of stuff to do for the next season and order parts and supplies on-line saving money. Plus, things would last longer too being out of the water. Heck, I'm in Lexington, sc and our boat is in Florida. I worry about the condition and wonder if the lines are still tight. I do have money people looking after it but its not the same. Jan. of 2014 we will be doing some traveling to the Bahamas/Keys so 1 more month to go.
