Fuek tank vent/overflow problem

Logic would indicate that IF he is filling an empty tank , the other one is full and the vent starts to flow, then the vents may be crossed.

Make sure the fill hose isn't coming apart inside. I was thinking that was mostly a straight shot though on that style Hat.
 
Eric, sounds like you have a low spot in the vent hose causing trapped fuel to shoot out when fueling. With the tank pressurized fuel shoots out and more fuel is siphoned in. Just change the vent line. No burping required....
 
What if a baffle in the tank came loose? What if one section of the tank is filling up (20gal) and not running into the other sections fast enough? What if something like a rag went down the fill and then got stuck on a baffle and when you fill it splashes off of that and up the vent line? Just thinking of weird circumstances.

Okay, I've got it. What if the law of gravity was reversed inside of the tank?
 
Bad news......algae in your tank. Good news.......it's the biodiesel producing type. Recommendation.......get em into the other tank and you'll never have to fuel up again.

No more calls please, we have a winner. Mario is correct. The vent line is copper and is shaped like a big rectangle where it goes up and over and back down to the vent out the hull side. The top of the rectangle, about 12" across, had a dip in it and was apparently holding some trapped fuel. As we all have likely experienced, even 1/4 cup of diesel when shot onto the surface of the water looks more like a gallon.

After the mechanic took the lines apart and inspected everything, we went to the fuel dock and all is fine. We adjusted both port and stbd vent lines so that there is no low spot.

So you're saying logic wins again??? That's kind of a downer. I'd still like to think in some small way that a banana was involved. I will admit that I was a bit skeptical about the biodiesel producing algea.

I think the true issue here is what strange internal force is bending your fueking vent into a rectangle.

I've got to admit, this is the funniest problem (and solution suggestions) we've had in a while...
 
I can assure you that the personnel at our fuel dock were not at all amused by this problem.
The most amusing thing here is my typo at the beginning where I referred to this as a fuek tank problem. This has been a fueked-up thread right from the beginning, and got more fueked-up from there.

I'll not likely make the mistake of posting anything new ever again. I'll just snipe at what others post - it's way more fun.

I certainly did not intend to annoy or offend you. Please accept my apology. I'm a newbie here and definitely don't want to get off on the wrong foot. You didn't offend or annoy anyone. For the most part we're a pretty easy going bunch. After a while you'll get to know the tone of most here. Once you do you'll realize that those comments were light hearted. I'm surprised no one else picked up on the typo earlier. That's the type of thing we usually have fun with.
