  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
Not Currently A Hatteras Owner
During a recent discussion with a local sailor, he informs me that only 1% of the boats listed on yacht world actually have been selling in the last year! I don't know where he got this info but I am seriously considering selling Doc's Holiday (1989 chris craft 501) so that we can buy a smaller Hat (40 to 45 foot range. We currently are located in Eastport, Maine and plan on heading south. Any recommendations re brokers who are actually moving boats on the east coast would be greatly appreciated.

Call Jan Boone at Jarrett Bay if anyone can she will be able to.

Have you got a contact phone number for Boats B or Jarret Bay?

I have one closing Tuesday. They are selling g but the cream goes first.
Exactly. Good boats that are priced right are selling. Problem is most of the boats listed are overpriced and/or show lack of maintanance. Good boats are bringing better numbers due to the lack of good, clean properly priced boats. I know of a few that just sold in the past few weeks for decent numbers. I've also seen a few that I made offers on almost 2 years ago, sell or lower the ask to around what I offered.

Boats in nice condition that are priced to the current market can sell in 60 days. By June 30, this year we had eclipsed 2011's total sales. The buyers are out there. Meantime, there are plenty of "sellers holding out - for less".

Call Mike Dickins at Paradise Yacht 904-556-9431. He's a full time liveaboard and really cares about the customer...

Boats that are correctly priced are selling promptly at or near the asking price. Junk, no surprise here, is NOT selling. There are bargains out there, if you compare the prices to what these boats would have brought a few years ago.

With real estate, it's location. With boats, it seems to be condition, more than anything else. I have heard about a bad market etc, but when a close friend who is a yacht broker is closing three deals or so a month, I think the market is pretty healthy.

I like "holding out for the low bid" or whatever it was. Sort of like "snatching defeat from the jaws of victory....." lol

YEP, I fit into that scenario as well; I have been a member of the "buy high, sell low" club my entire life. :)

Chuck Meyers of the Jarrett Bay office in Baltimore has had a very good couple of years. He echos the other comments on this thread.

Chuck was the sellers broker when I bought Chateau de Mer. I found him to be honest and above board. He even recommended one of the two best Detroit mechanics in Baltimore for the engine survey.

I think the answer to the original question is: boats are selling, but for much less than what people would expect them to sell for. And the fact is that with time the boats only get older. Regardless of being a Hatt or not, an old boat is an old boat.

I would say that average sale price today would be a "steal" to most people that don't really follow prices closely. 100-200k will buy a lot of boat right now.

You aren't kidding. It is AMAZING what 250K will buy in particular. Like one sale I know of which might well have tempted me personally.....

My office in Fort Lauderdale is busy even though this is our normal slow period. Under agreement this week is an 80' Christensen, a 74' Hatteras sport deck, a 67' Hatteras, a 60' Offshore, and a 54' Neptunus. We have an advantage in that we offer free undercover dockage for sellers, but they have to have a reasonable asking price to qualify. We have seven Hatteras yachts at our docks from 67' to 130'
