  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
43' DOUBLE CABIN (1970 - 1984)
The forward head exhaust fan motor in my 1976 43 DC called it quits. I thought it would be an easy fix but I can't find it to make the replacement. Does anybody know where its located? I have looked under the sink, tried to see if the medicine cabinet had a hatch hiden in it to get to the motor, been into the bildge and just can't find it. Called Steve at Sam's and he gave me the name of a former electrical guy with Hatteras. I called him and he couldn't remember. Suggested I look at my wiring diagrm but I don't have a wiring diagram for the boat. Help! Mel

Dont feel bad... a year ago mine too quit... I couldn't find it either... Suddenly about 4 months ago it started working fine so I stopped looking...only place I didn't check was in the engine room.......

Mine is behind the cabinet at the end of the dinette table, that cabinet comes out as one piece, take out the screws and away you go.

Our 36C has a removable panel on the wall inside the cabinet in the head. Screws hold that plate on. Still a real challange, but doable. There is always a length of flex tube leading from the outlet to the motor and its blower. Follow that duct and it will lead to the blower. It is there and it will have a removable panel to make it almost possible to remove the blower.

Mine is located on the port side under the salon window behind the panel on the outside wall of the bathroom. After removing the panel look up towards the rail. It should be right there.

Thanks for the tips. I should have said the floorplan is head 3 steps down from salon and to port. I will look again. Maybe I will get lucky and it will just start working again......no...that's not the way it goes for me!! Unless I bleed a little it doesn't get fixed!! Mel

I eventually located ours in the closet of the master stateroom....1981 43C.

Check outside on the hull where the clamshell is and that will help get you closer to the location.

The forward head fan on our 1980 43' DC is located behind the cabinet at the end of the dinnette as Dennis said. The one for the galley is accessed through the wall locker forward of the galley sink. The one for the aft head is located behind the wall cabinet in the salon wall stbd side. All three are 110 VAC.

You didn't specify the lay-out, but if you have the no-dinette layout like my 1973 43DC did, then you should have cabinets built into the ceiling panels under the salon windows. Those cabinets pull right out as one unit when the screws in the trim pieces are removed. The head exhaust fan was behind the wall just forward of that cabinet.
