Marine Air A/C controls

I just finished installing a Marine Air digital control for our Salon A/C unit. Steve @ Marine AC.com really helped a lot. The unit, bezel, shipping, and tax was about $220. As I installed it, I exchanged about 30 e-mails and about 7 phone calls with Steve. He was more than willing to help and gave me a very good education about the theory and operation of marine A/C units. After three days of work,(alot of time spent scraching my bald head), the unit is up and running. This system has many protections that will help keep my compressor unit alive. I am still learning the various functions and abilities of this neat digital control system.

The bottom line is that I would surely recommend Steve from marine-ac.com for any of you do-it-yourself Hatteras owners that have any air conditioning problems or need some retrofitting.

You guys running A/C today are killing me! Forcast low tonight 23 - no A/C required, but maybe digital controls next summer to get ready for the long anticipated winter cruise to FLA. Maynard, we have same boat, so thanks for the lesson.

The main reason is to have a higher level of protection for the compressor. We leave our boat in Miami all year, yet only live on it in winter. To keep the boat fresh and mildew free inside we run the salon A/C unit all the time when we are not aboard. We have had our 3 knob thermostat stick a few times and fail to shut the compressor off causing a major freeze up.etc. Everybody told me that we arew playing russian roulete with the analoge controls. So we switched to the MarinAire digital unit. It wasn't very expensive, about $200 and works nicely. The installation on our Hatteras was a bit of a challange as the evaporator is in a very tough location and the compressor is 30 feet away in the engine room. I got it done though,;of course some swearing was necessary. I still don't understand why Hatteras felt that they needed to use 14 screws to hold a cabinet floor down. Have they not heard of Mr. gravity?

Not on a boat, Maynard Only on land. Gravity doesn't work on boats. It's in the owners' manual.

23 degrees and shoveling snow off the boat. AC not a chance today.
