Ok I'm "Brain Dead". Not on the boat and my starboard raw water pump is leaking at the shaft so I need a shaft seal and there is a seal on the flange cover on the top of the pump. Is there another seal??

Has anyone changed one, Hard?????????????????/

Thanks,

Runaground Ron

Depends on how stuck the bearing is. I've been able to tap the shaft out with a dead blow but sometimes had to use a press.
How hard it is depends on your mechanical abilitys and available tools.

I usually just ship mine to Depco for more complete work. they are very reasonable and have all the parts on hand so they can get it done alot faster than I can.

If you replace the bearing and seals and the cam and the shaft and the .... You really don't know what you need until it's apart.

Depending on how you utilize I boat, I really like having a spare raw water pump aboard. They are quite easy to change out if cruising and you can avoid all but an hour of downtime. All yu need are the pipe connection gaskets.

But buying a pump ad hoc is expensive. I found several over time on sale on E-BAY and ended up buying one for less than a rebuild kit,,,still haven't figured that out. Anyway, the pump came from a rebuild guy on LI, NY not far from my homeport in New Rochelle and it had the new SS (not bronze) shaft, and all new parts visible without disassembly.

An option is to carry a complete rebuild kit aboard and that enables rebuild even if a remote shop doesn't have parts on hand. Did that too.

Thanks Rob, well I cruise the boat pretty heavy 8,500 miles the last 2.5 years. She is currently on the hard in Hampstead, NC. where I think I'll leave her for the balance of the summer. Probabably a pretty good idea. Do you still have any info on the guy from LI, NY ?? Thanks Ron
