Great Lakes Hatteras Theft in 1974

This story was the talk of the Great Lakes back in 1974 when I was 12. They called it a 44 in the stories, but I think it may have actually been a 43DC.

Interesting story. I can see how this could happen. Any other info that you know about this? Gezon still has a dealership or two in GR. Does he still have a boat?

A friend asked me about the theft a few days ago and my recollection was mostly accurate about it. The Grand Rapids Press ran a few articles and I remember the approximate dates they ran, so I will get those and see if they have any more information on it. It was the talk of Grand Haven/Spring Lake that summer. I remember seeing the boat on land at North Shore Marina shortly after it was recovered. Gezon bought a 1975 60 Chris Craft Roamer the next year and owned it until 1981. I don't believe he got another big boat. My grandpa knew him and said he had arthritis that made it difficult to get around on the boat. He died back in 2003 at the age of 78. His daughter now runs the dealership.

Was he related to the Gezon in Whitehall? Bob is his name and he has a 61CMY. He runs a marine construction business and was involved in a marina up there as well. I see the boat is for sale on YW.

I am not sure if they are related, it certainly is possible. Some "historical" trivia: David Gezon's father, Amos, and my great grandfather were good friends and regularly played cards together.

I think I know the 61 CMY you are talking about. It used to be named "Wet Dreams" and was purchased by her previous owner in 1990 in Florida and brought up to the Great Lakes.
