Bout Time ready for 3 year cruise

Spending two nights in Port St. Joe, been on the hook for last six days, so time to find a good Mexican Resturant. About 850 miles under the keel as we finish the second leg of the trip.

Has anyone crossed from Carrabelle to Steinhatchee??? With the days being shorter in the winter will probably not make crystal river during daylight and admiral hates to be out at night. Steinhatchee is an easy day trip.

Hi, should be in Mississippi Sound about November, 15th. I met you at the Gulf Coast Hatteras Rendevous, didn't have Bout Time with us and were taking our Truck Camper to Joe Wheeler State Park, Tennessee River to be followed two weeks late with boat. However, Oil spill changed our plans and took above camper to Canada for the summer.

Would love to see all you guys, we usually anchor off Cat key so am not really looking for a slip, but would love to stop at your location if we can get together.

Great David, should be around Mississippi Sound on November 15th. Would love to see you will keep you posted on our wearabouts as we get closer to you.

Well two days into our 3 year cruise, complications. Some of you may know I had my port gear rebuilt this past spring and because of the complications I need some help getting the gear out and back in Getting it out was not big deal but getting it back in was a challenge for an old fat fart like me so I contracted with some allison licensed mechanics, because i wanted it done right, to install the gear and I hooked up the rest of the stuff.

Long story short. While sitting in the Brazos river for two hours waiting for the east lock to open I lost all control of the rebuilt port gear. Quick check of the upper helm controls reavealed no problem, so down to the engine room and low and behold both gear cables were hanging in the air, having come loose, fallen off the gear lever. Normally not a big problem , but with a four knot current in the river and a partially opened lock with swirling eddies, you can guess I had a lot of kind thoughts for the "Allison licensed Mechanics ". A couple of 1/4 inch bolts and washer,nuts with the Admiral at the helm and we're under way. Currently sitting on the anchor with a well deserve G&T.

That Gin & Tonic is indeed well deserved! Ron, you are a gentleman and a scholar. What a Captain! That is what cruising is all about. Being willing and able to deal with isses as they come up is an incredible asset. This is the stuff that will get you through a 3-year cruise successfully.

If there is anything that I can do for you in the New Orleans area, please do not hesitate to ask. A friend owns a boatyard in New Orleans just off the ICW as you lock across the Mississippi so if you need a slip for the evening or anything at all for the boat, this is the place. I hope to see you while you are in the area, but I don't have the chance GIDDY UP!!!

That Gin & Tonic is indeed well deserved! Ron, you are a gentleman and a scholar. What a Captain! That is what cruising is all about. Being willing and able to deal with isses as they come up is an incredible asset. This is the stuff that will get you through a 3-year cruise successfully.

Are you talking about Seabrook Marina?? We've stayed there once and the owner is a super guy, can't remember his name. Generally do not stop other than overnight in THE BIG EASY as Charm and I have been there many many times. Thank you very much for your very kind offer.

Yep, Seabrook on the Industrial Canal just off the ICW. They are the best in the area, by far. They are the ones who painted my old 58YF with such geat results. Highly recommended.

We are currently in Houma sitting here today due to rain. Will probably go to the Boom Town Casino tomorrow and tie off on the bulkhead. Will problably be thru the Industrial lock by 12-1:00pm on Wednesday and from there we usuallly stay in the oxbow before going out into Mississpi Sound. I'm looking forward to seeing some blue water after having been in the ditch for the last week.

As you know, you are still a couple days (in the ICW) from blue water as the water in Mississippi Sound is not too pretty but you are getting close! Had a good night at the slots at Boomtown, paid for dinner and beverages. Right We'll be at Rabit Island , God willing, tommorow night and then in the Sound Thursday, looks like a Northwest wind so may be able to anchor off the ICW at one of the barrrier islands even though the fetch is normally a little strong if the winds are above 10mph. If they're in the 15-20 range will probably anchor off Deer Island at Biloxi.
