3 killed off of coast of somalia,,,ok not an accident but what a job 3 shots 3 kills at the same time on a moving bobbing object. Go seals.

3 for 3... Batting 1000...... That's the way it should be......

I'm glad we finally took positive action. All these little "piss ant" groups think that they can do whatever they want with all gain and no down side now have something to think about. Damn, I'm proud to be an American (former USN).

Go Seals, go Navy, go USA

The shipping companies can use non lethal weapons. Seen military tests on this glue stuff they spray from a flame thrower looking device. Just glue them to their skiffs or to the side of the ship. If they were glued to side of the ship, just leave them there and go on with the trip, possibly they will just fall off after another 1k miles or so.

In the old days they would pour hot oil on folks attacking their castle .... that's gotta leave a mark !

Screw the non lethal BS. I would rather explain why I killed the SOB than have them explain to my family why they killed me.

The pirates are organized and without concern for anyone but themselves. It's time to strafe the SOB's and show them that each person they capture will cost them the lives of a dozen pirates. Each person they harm 2 dozen, and if they kill 1 they will lose 100. When the price is too high they will stop.

Put a seal team on 100 ships going through the straits and see how many make it through. I bet things change fast.

Just think it would be funny to see some sob glued to the side of the ship.

I agree. Why not put a Small team of snipers on US ships in this area. Shoot first ask questions later. Most of these pirates are young and live with families all over Somalia. Hunting them down could be be too risky to our military. The pirates are in it for the money. If you make it too risky for them to attack our ships, they'll stop doing it. They won't stop until we stop them.

Somalian roulette. Guess which ships have a seal team. Put teams from as many countries willing to offer them on randomly chosen ships. See how long they want to play.

I'll bet the newly reformed Blackwater Group could use some work...

Yep, a small "security" team and a pair of Browning M2s on every ship would do the job, I think.

If all that is left is wreckage who is going to ask questions. Do the somali's have the technology or desire to run a forensic exam on the bullet ridden bodies if they happen to wash up on shore?

I say Kill em all and let the sharks sort em out!

My next door neighbor is the Capt of a 1000 ft ship which is owned by the DOD and leased to the Mersk Corp. They make regular runs through that area and have high pressure water cannons mounted all over the ship to repeal boarders. Most of their cargo is U.S. military equipment (tanks, armored personnel carriers, Humvees and so on). Every so often they carry a small contingent of US Marines on board for "safety". I think it depends on the cargo and who owns it as to the use of armed guards. I do believe however that International laws prohibit merchant ships to be armed, something about hiding true status BS. If that's the case, then I believe it should be fairly easy to have a new international agreement that would permit at least small arms. Private Yachts are almost always armed when transiting that area.

Several years ago my nephew (Capt of large megayachts) was bringing a 146 ft MY from New Zealand to be delivered to Malta in the Med. The Kiwi gov't loaned the MY some automatic weapons and provided the training for their use. Upon arriving at their destination, they were required to return them. I can just hear the anti-gun crowd groaning about that. It is not something that is advertised but it's not a secret. That entire area is very risky for anyone cruising by. They needed to refuel and had made arrangements to be met at sea for refueling from another vessel rather than take a chance entering a port.

We have a lot to be thankful for folks. God Bless the USA

The transiting ships should make it a profit center by offering a Safari-Cruise. The customer pays for the passage, free ammo is provided and there is a no bag limit. You can bet there will be a waiting list of willing participants.

I totally agree with the shoot first ask questions later idea. Enough is enough. Oh, Maersk is looking for captains & crew to "run the gauntlet" and is paying BIG for anyone willing to do so. It appears they are having a hard time finding crew to run in that area.

An armed society is a polite society.

Well, I learned today, as Walter suggested, that per international law it is illegal for merchant ships to be armed. Of course, I ASSUME that per international law piracy is also illegal...

Someone on another site pointed out that piracy is one reason navy's were formed in the first place so why not just let them take care of it? Sounds good to me, the military is not about capturing/putting on trial, it's about killing enemies...

As I said before I would be better off explaining the reasons I shot the SOB's than having the authorities explain to my family how the pirates shot me.

Mike does the law say the ship can not have arms on board? or not be armed such as mounted guns. Some shipping companies have hired security (mercinaries) so wonder if they are breaking the law.

Also would think that the shipping companies should try convoys, seemed to be a little effective in WWII. Navy cant escort each ship and the area is too large for effective patrols.

67hat34c.....I like your idea:

"The shipping companies can use non lethal weapons. Seen military tests on this glue stuff they spray from a flame thrower looking device. Just glue them to their skiffs or to the side of the ship. If they were glued to side of the ship, just leave them there and go on with the trip, possibly they will just fall off after another 1k miles or so."

When we were off the coast of Nicaragua, we were chased by a boat with more than 20 men aboard. We thought of filling a glass bottle with gasoline, throwing it on their vessel, then aiming a flare gun at the deck. I would think it would be a little more difficult to concentrate on piracy when your boat is on fire! Luckily, we were able to outrun them....:)
