Thanks to all of you:) Now I too can join Al Gore's revolution;) I hope I don't have to deal with Hillary's inventions:(. You know, I just used to be able to select from the cute little pictures at the right of this box. Now I will have to do it manually:(

There's probably a missing hyperlink for the smilies in the box. It went away when they did the software upgrade. Since I'm sure Doug has his hands full I'm content to use the work-around until he gets around to fixing it. I'm happier that he got the gallery working instead.

We now return control of this thread to its original owner. :D

Nice job...

This thread is probably the best Hi-Jacking job I have ever seen! Usually, regardless of the subject, the hi-jack still has some minimal element of the original. But this? This is a masterpiece!

NOTE: I am NOT trying to denigrate anyone, I appreciate the info on the smilies. I just want to acknowledge achievement when I see it!!!

I guess I need to apologise. The smiles thing is my fault. I surely was not trying to Hi-Jack the thread.

I can't remember all of that :(. Now I'm going to have to go back and make notes just to keep up

Maynard - there is no need to apologize; I REALLY wasn't being critical. I've been know to hijack a thread myself on more than one occasion! But I never did it THAT well! Maybe one of these days...

:O ;o ;( ;) :( :) ;0 ;B :B :D :C :X :U :Q OOPS! Just practicing.....

They’re called ‘Leaktroits’ around here :)

The leak detectors for them things are a big elephant kotex underneath it. By the end of the season leaks dont matter any more. ;-) ws

What's your recommended bildge cleaner to remove all that oil?

Try orange clean and elbow grease.

So far, Ive been in there and litterally scraped the original inch or two off with a putty knife, then a stiff bristled parts brush with mineral spirits. Once I was satisfied that it was "degreased" , I used Dawn and hot water from the heater through a 110 volt pressure washer; vacuum clean, rinse, and vacuum dry. Right after haulout, I am going in with "prejudice" to get it cleaned and painted LOONG before it gets cold out. The paint can dry for 4-5 months that way!
Now that I know my way around the place, I need to wash the 12s down and powerwash the POs attempt at painting them with Dutch Boy latex paint... That a$$ only made a bad situation WORSE! Just gotta bite the bullet and put on my best rags and get in there, YEUKKK !! ws

Yep, my DDs are leakless also. But though I managed to get two big old 568 cubic inch 8V71TIs DDs to not leak, I haven't yet (after a year of trying) been able to duplicate that success on an 850cc Norton Commando. It's the only mechanical device I've ever seen that could leak (UNPRESSURIZED!) oil past new 0-rings. I'm not sure how those Norton guys managed that.

Fortunately, the DD guys weren't quite as capable so their leaks are fixable! :)

Mike... I made a comment to a rice grinder guy about my Norton leaking and he said the Limeys used very porous aluminum for castings. My old 1952 panhead HD was supposed to leak from the tin primary cover drain; thats how you regulated the chain oilers! ws

By the way you are absolutely right about the porpous aluminum, on the old Rolls that I restore , I have to repaint the inside of the oil pans if I scrape through the original paint that was used inside the oil pan to keep the oil in. If not painted the pan will "weep" oil. Of course those old Rollers leaked so much oil anyway that I swear it doesnt just leak , but actually produces oil.
