  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
36' CONVERTIBLE-Series II (1983 - 1987)
Was repowering my Hatt this winter but unfortunately the gears didn't show up with the engines. If anyone can help me locate either of the following it would be much appreciated. Was going with ZF 280-1A's in 2:1 ratio with electric shift and troll. It appears the ZF 286A in the same configuration might work as well. Thanks in advance for any help you may be able to provide.

You might call Seaboard Marine (Tony Athens) in Oxnard, CA.

I sold him a pair of new 286A's with troll not too long before the shutdown...might still have them in stock.

DAN

I have a call and email into him. He is not in the last two days.

But thank you for the heads up. Sorry I hit post reply before I was done writing my response.

As long as you are shopping for gears, Have you considered a down angle unit?
A level engine does seem happier IMO.
Less oil splash at the rear of the crank.
Less oil puddles at the back of the valve cover(s).

The "A" designation is a down angle unit. 7 degree

Glad your on the down angle idea.

Hum, A to me just means another variant, Including ZF.

For example, ZF BW 190/ BW 190A just placed the PTO in a different position. BW190V had the down angle.
The straight BW 190 was the gear per choice for the DD 12V71TA in Hatteras's.

However, that is a 30 year old design. I don't get to work on any newer ZF stuff.
Think that is good, Not broken yet??
