  1. OWNER - I own a different brand
Hatteras Model
Not Currently A Hatteras Owner
Looking to buy a 48 Motor Yacht. Probably a Series 1. Only interested in ones with stabilizers. Anything on the West Coast would not be an option. I prefer the 6-71N over the 6V-92TA. Anyone looking to sell or know of one? I did look at the one in Newport News already.

P.S. Looks like I can't control capitalization of the heading....

The 48 in Va reads pretty well. If I may ask, What's holding you back on that one?

The pictures look OK, but in person it is a bit rough. Needs an overall paint job. All of the isenglass on the aft deck is shot. Aft flybridge isenglass is shot. Electronics are old, with one MFD almost not readable. I asked to witness a cold engine start since I was driving 8 hours to see it. Engines were started before I got there. Starboard has 300 hours on it and a working block heater and was at 140 degrees. It fired right up perfectly. Port engine(never rebuilt) was at 75 degrees with a non-working or turned off block heater. Assumed it was at that temp from being started earlier. It smoked and rolled at idle for about 30 seconds after starting, so I think that one is getting tired. Some hoses on both engines were blistered. Some water in the engine room bilge from somewhere. Lots of growth on the bottom, with known blisters. I would need for it to get to Lake Erie with some confidence.

When I was there, I pretty much ruled it out as needing too much. I would consider it if the price is right, but would prefer to spend more upfront and do upgrades at my leisure.

OK. I understand. When you consider the Wesmar stabilizers, newer genset, and your preferred engines -
she may be worth the effort. I'd much prefer to do some canvas and paint work as compared to adding
stabilizers. The "cold" start results may not mean much. It's a shame that they didn't properly accommodate your
request, as you say, given your travel investment. As I'm sure you know, The only way to really know their
condition is a compression test. Even worn out 671's will run and make their power if they start. Most nav electronics
on older boats are throw-aways. Good luck with your search.

Yep, that is what I am telling myself now. Of course I would get a full survey(including engines) if going through with a purchase.

How many were built, how long ago? How many you think are left?

I started looking for a nice 47 Chevy Aerosedan in 1977. Wasn’t til 2015 that I found a nice one, it had two previous frame off restorations (with photo documentation), yet I still had to totally repaint it, put in new upholstery, plus brakes, and tires, and it lived in a garage it’s whole life.

They built 159,490 of them. There’s a moral about TIME in this post.
