Would you do what I want to do to my transom?

Hi all,

I am planning on addding a shower for my vertical transom maybe 2.5 feet above the swim platform. I got the scandvik stainless covered shower and a second one for the valve mixer/shut off.

Anyone think that it would be a mistake to add these 2.5 inches stainless steel covered holes on the transom?

I am just worried about following waves incase I get stranded in a rather heavy seas that this may create a compromised point??!!

Thanks

Why not put it higher on one side so the inside is in one of the corner the cabinets over the aft berth. Would be easier to run hoses up from below. John

Thanks for your reply. I dont have direct access to those corners from inside on my vessel. The water lines are going to come from below. I would rather make the water connections where I would see them and have access to them in case of a leak. Unless I want to cut out a small access door on one of the corners.

Why not install a fresh water hose bib connection? It will be similar to the other Hatteras hose connections, will not have to worry about following seas issue you mentioned. It would provides additional versatility of being able to connect a hose, shower head etc, when ever you like.

My 74 MY has access panels in those boxes that look factory original, surprised yours does not, I guess they made little changes each year. Good luck with the project. John

do you trust leaving pressurized water behind this nipple?

this setup may help me when I install water on the bow to wash down the anchor/deck. The setup on the transom needs to have a hot/cold mixer with shut off.

this is what I bought in white:

Scandvik makes nice stuff, I see them hook up and pressurized occasionally when doing surveys and have never seen a problem, however they are usually on sailboats with rather small 12 volt pressure water pumps, don’t know if you are using a large 110 volt pump at higher pressure if there might be a problem, but I doubt it. I got the idea when I saw this brand on a friend's 2018 Ferriti 55'. I personally use 32V system. I doubt it that the voltage will make a significant water pressure system difference on the boat. I guess I will know later.

Yes, this is how they were installed from the factory on my Hatteras. Have not had any issues with pressure from the water pump or dockside connection up to 50psi.

Great so this would be a great quick disconnect for a windlass wash down. Thabks. One morenproject I guess.
