Help on windlass wiring, please.

I'm installing a Maxwell 1500 windlass on my 36C. My original thought was to run the positive side through a 125 amp fuse in one of the spares slots in my battery distribution box.

The windlass comes with a 120 amp breaker.

Is it better to skip the breaker and just use the fuse for protection or is it wise to put the breaker in line as extra protection and to be able to use it as a "shut off switch". In either case, is there a reason to not run this through the battery distribution box.

Thanks for any help.

I do not have the slightest idear but i gotta tell u a story. The up and down buttons on the bow will stick and will not work untill the middle of the night. You can imagine the supprise and noise so be sure to put the correct amprige/ and maybee the braker in so it will shut off in a bine Tim good luck

I have a 1984 36c with factory installed galleymaid. It is wired from the battery distribution box with a large fuse. There is also a 150 amp disconnect/breaker in a box in the anchor rode locker next to the windlass motor. They used 2/0. Hope this is some help. Wayne

Keep the fuse in the battery dist. box and put the breaker up near the windlass. The fuse s/b s slow blow rated a little higher than the breaker that come with the windlass. Give Maxwell a call if you have any concerns about your installation.
