My Galley Maid windlass is acting up. When I try to lower the anchor with the foot switch windlass turns too slow and the breaker trips, when I push the foot swith to go up, no problem. Any ideas? Thanks

While we are on GM windlesses, does any one know where to get the rubber covers for the foot switches? Mine are shot. Made of the wrong kind of rubber.

The Galley Maid windlass is designed to carry a load only in the up direction. It only has one thrust bearing and if you put a load on it going in the down direction it could bind the worm gear and jam. Hence the breaker kicks out. I don't know why they made a windlass like that because you have switches that allow you to make it go both ways. It says in the manual to load it only in the up direction and let the anchor free fall in the down direction.
The rubber switch covers can be ordered from Galley Maid. Ron
