Hatteras Model
75' SPORT DECK MY (2000 - present)
Looking at installing a booster. Any help deciding what to get greatly appreciated.....Pat

I bought the Rougue Wave and it works great but I'm finding most wifi services have passwords now.

If you are tech savy you can buy the Ubiquity Bullet M2 which is the same hardware as Rogue Wave but without all of the user aid software. I have done this and ethernet it to a netgear for redistribution. Buying the hardware is quite a bit cheaper than going with Rogue Wave but you need to know what you are doing.

I purchased the shakespear stick about 2 feet tall. It extends it but pass words are the issue. If you stay at mariners they will pass it on to you of course but traveling i pay those ba#$@rds Verison.

I like the wave, the software is really convenient especially the latest version where you can save hotspots you use frequently.

That said open hotspots are getting rarer and even when marinas have free wifi it usually is very slow even with a booster if you want reliable internet cellular is the way to go. Even in the Bahamas now, it's just $10 a gig I rarely mess with the wave down there unless there is no signal but an open hot spot (rare)

X2 on the Rogue Wave, augmented with cellular hub when outside of marina wifi.

Also spoke with KVH people at FLIBS about their sat dish options, but insane $$ and not very good performance. Hopefully this will improve over time.

Last time I looked into it sat data was still around $5 to $7 a MEG. Equipment has come down in price but not bandwidth.

Have the Rogue and very satisfied. Still need passwords at marinas but no matter where you are docked the signal stays strong.

No luck worth mentioning with any boosters, but we do use a Verizon product through getunlimiteddata.com. We pay $180/month for 100 Gigs of 4G. Yep...it USED to truly be unlimited. Now they cap it at 100 Gigs. We stream our viewing pleasure, and use about 1 G per hour on a 4K format. We are heavy users, with multiple devices all on the net at one time without difficulty. We also take the 6G's of hotspot from each of our T mobile devices and "screen mirror" since T mobile has "binge-on" without deducting from your hot spot allotment. Cant speak for out of country use, but other than "I" dock at Liberty Landing Marina which is essentially dead to all users, we've had no appreciable issues.

The Rouge Wave has been a wonderful addition to the boat. Have not had issues with WiFi systems requiring passwords both in the US and Bahamas. When there is no WiFi available our backup is linking in our Cellular Hot Spot into the Hat's computer network.

I had a Rogue Wave on my last boat and it worked well. For some reason this time around I got a Wirie. For some reason I've never really been able to make it work. Seems like other people do but not me and I can't figure out why. It's as if there's some force field around the boat. And I agree that password protection is an issue. I'd just like to be able to pickup the marina wifi about 50 yards away.

The availability of free open hot spots varies but generally speaking I find the number has shrunk over the last 5 or 6 years I ve been using a wave. If you have a cable account with xfinity Comcast you may be lucky and find one of their hotspots but again it s very limited

One use for a booster is when using a cell phone as an access point. Typically their range is limited so connecting your boat router to the phone to broadcast the signal thru the boat by using the wave to pick up the phone hot spots does help that's what I m using right now off Staniel Cay where even the wave doesn't pick up any open hot spot
