  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
53' MOTOR YACHT (1969 - 1988)
We have a nice booster on the boat (wave Rogue) but in some places wifi is just poor. Nassau for instance is terrible as none of the marinas offer free service even Atlantis charges $15 a day (at least the last time I was there). All the pay services as unreliable and I ve been burned a few times paying for 3 days and getting only a few hours of service

I usually get a prepaid sim for a cheap phone to avoid the high roaming charges. Today i upgraded to a BTC prepaid galaxy Ace (droid) and their $30 a month / 1 gig prepaid data service

Turns out the droid has a built in hotspot so I can use my AT&T iPhone or computer to access the web thru the BTC droid.

Nice option... So far so good, I ll see how it works in the exumas, cel reception is decent in many places there so i m hoping it saves us the $10 to $15 a day wifi costs

I've been waiting for a friend from Nassau to provide info on cell data options so very interested in reading more about your experience.

How and where did you arrange to take delivery of the phone?
How much was the phone?
Is the voice plan pre-paid by the month?
And--the data plan is $30. more for the 1 gig?

Is it possible to rent a sim card for a Droid phone and thereby avoid buying yet another phone? (They're beginning to stack up like flights out of LGA in a winter storm!!)

Thx.

It worked pretty well in NAS up to 20nm out or so but nearly useless in the exumas so far even here in Staniel where cel signal is pretty good so I signed to with exumas wifi which works very well with our Rogue. $10 a day/200gig with discount s on longer subs

In Nassau though it works well since wifi is awful

A Samsung Ace cost 169 plus $15 for the sim. Voice is prepaid by usage not time frame. I bought the phone at the BTC office in Nassau, they work at island pace, a one hour process/line... :( you can usually buy phones/sims elsewhere like BIM but i didn't stop there this time

SIMs expire if not used after 3 or 4 months

You can also order the phone and simonline in the States (look up BTC cell phones) but I ve never tried it

If you want to use an existing phone it needs to be unlocked but I need to be able to answer calls on my ATT FL nr so using 2 phones work best for me
